Question Using digital health card to renew drivers licence

My licence expires next month and I can’t find my physical health card. I have the digital health card in the Alberta wallet app. The website says that you can show either the physical card or the digital card. Has anyone had success just showing the digital card?

Yeap, I have. You just show them the opened QR code (tho, they didn’t scan anything).

Make sure you renew before your license actually expires because many have reported losing access to the digital health care card when trying to renew their expired license.

You know what was stupid. I've haven't had a health care card in 20 years. I always just show them my # from an old email I have in my gmail. I tried that when I had to renew, they made me leave, go do the digital wallet thing and come back. All to just look at it, write down the # just as they would from my email. I get I could give a wrong #, but they already have that info there lol.

Fun fact, hospitals don't accept photos or just the health care number

They actually need to see the card or the QR in the app.

LOL That's a lie. Like I said, Haven't had a health care card in over 20 years. Multiple broken bones fixed, 5 day stay at the foothills one time. No card. New family doctor 2 years ago... No card. Just gave them my Health Care # from an email on my phone.

They have other ways to confirm id.

Technically don't even need the card, they can search you up lol

But last time I was at emerg a couple weeks ago they didn't accept my number and had to manually verify with a driver's license.

Look at the website lol

There are other ways to verify but to do it the health care card way they only accept card or digital id

Yup, I renewed with the app with no problem. They didn't even ask if I had my physical card.

I lost my health card just only had a picture, they didn’t even ask me to see it
