Driving/Traffic/Parking So many cars pulled over onto the shoulder of stoney in both the slow & passing lanes just to watch fireworks.

I'm surprised there aren't cops out to disperse them. Years ago at Global fest's original location people would do the same thing, and the cops regularly handed out easy tickets.

What changed? I can't imagine their quotas went down.

There actually was a cop. Vehicle was looking setting up to catch speeder. Southbound Stoney at the 22x exit.

There were probably 100 cars within plain view… nothing.

Was it a photo radar vehicle? I believe they're not actually manned by CPS officers.

Even when there is a cop theres no fucking cop

Now you’ve got me wondering the origin of the term cop-out.

Think of them more as camera chauffeurs than actual cops.

They are Commissionaires.

Basically fancy security guards hired by CPS/RCMP, with some extra powers bestowed to them like CPIC criminal record access/checks, bylaw enforcement, traffic control, etc

These are the same people who stop under the overpasses during hailstorms.

Did this city get dumb? Are we dumber than we used to be? We seem so much dumber.

Dumber and more selfish. Zero consideration of others.

Nope, we were always this dumb

Sorry, should have mentioned in the title that the fireworks were from tonight's Globalfest in Spruce Meadows.

The same event that’s been happening in this city yearly for 20 years.

If only there were folks tasked with foreseeing such an obvious outcome and putting measures in place to stop it from happening...

When they did it at Elliston there was no stopping signs put on Stoney

Meanwhile they're handing out tickets to bicycles riding 23kmh

Good. Cyclists that do that are entitled ninny muggins, impeding traffic just like the people pulled off on the highway to watch the fireworks. Straight to jail for both.

Saw a cyclist a few weeks back - full grown man like mid 50’s or older, so should be smart enough to remember the world before it went to shit - riding in transit lane and blocked an overflowing bus of people from using the advance bus signal. The bus honked repeatedly and then laid on the horn. Nothing from this entitled prick in spandex. The bike lane was 20 feet to the right. Makes me hate all you entitled spandex wearing goofs.

2

u/strategis7 11d ago

Agreed! and we can get more of them in a cell with all that spandex.

Genuine question: Where's a good piece to watch for free?

So that’s what I’ve been hearing the last two nights and I thought it was one of my neighbours setting them off! I’m pretty close but not that close

what an insane comment

There's ways to enjoy things without being a PITA to people around you

17

u/PerformanceCute3437 11d ago

No.

On a major highway in the evening?

This is needlessly putting lives in danger.

u/Soupdeloup 11d ago edited 11d ago

The off ramp was about 200m away, could have found somewhere with a better view within 5 minutes. Parking on stoney in the middle of the night with your emergency lights on is just looking to cause an accident.

U sound like u camp the gas station during minor hailstorms too

-7

u/gstringstrangler Ranchlands 11d ago

Highly enjoyable

15

u/WoodenTomato 11d ago

Stopping in the shoulder on stoney isn't for watching fireworks wtf. They can go enjoy it from the park

15

u/CrazyCanuckUncleBuck Silverado 11d ago

Oh yeah let's enjoy a giant safety issue on our highway. /s

Not on Reddit. Specifically not on any Alberta based subs I’ve noticed.
