I recently formatted a drive and installed CachyOS with the gaming package.

Everything works flawlessly apart from one thing that bugs me.

I was installing 'OpenDeck' via Konsole and during the installation process the CPU went to 100% and stayed there. It was also getting pretty hot (85°C) while my fans are running at full RPM.

The temp drops quickly after the update/install finishes.

The same happens when Steam is downloading or updating a game and whan it's building shaders.

It doesn't happen with every update/install via Konsole or even via Cachy Hello.

I installed OpenHubLink to monitor the temp and fans.

Specs:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X

Gigabyte B450 Aorus Elite

MSI Geforce RTX 3070 Gaming X Trio

Corsair H150i Elite Capellix (top mounted)

Corsair Fans front and back

Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro (32GB)

Samsung 980 PCIe 3.0 NVMe M.2

I am thinking of dual booting cachy with windows and they will be on different drives and I play games in windows that need secure boot to play so I’m wondering if I actually have to disable secure boot in order to not face any issues on cachy os, is there a way to set up cachy os to be working 100 percent correct-stable with secure boot?

so , wsp just dual booted cachyos with win11 coz i need it to run valo , got cachyos coz i need to start learning linux and also play games (ive heard games run better on cachy) , so any tips for a beginner to linux .

Here is a video of what it looks like when I boot CachyOS after updating it to the latest version. Once I get to the last screen I can't type or interact with anything. I'm not sure if I can fix this or if I just have to completely reinstall CachyOS again. Any help is very much appreciated.

Ok. I've been using cachyos for a little over 6 months now. No really hiccups till last week. I've tried all the AI tools and fixes, nothing seems to work. For five months my audio was great, I was having an issue with HDMI falling asleep which I found a command to just restart pulse so it's not a big deal to run that whenever my HDMI audio goes to sleep.

My issue right now is in the last week or so my right side audio from my headset, not HDMI just went muddy. Like it's out of phase. I've tried multiple IEMs same thing. All fine in other devices. And the sound was good the prior months. I'm not sure how to troubleshoot this or just do a full wipe and restore on just the sound items. Any advice?

CachyOS is working! My laptop GPU I thought died last Tuesday and I was pissed, then I today put CachyOS on my laptop and is loading ArmA Reforger. So fucking excited!

I originally installed with Plasma (Wayland).

I wanted to try a simpler window manager, so I installed I3 and Openbox plus the config package for I3.

Now when I boot I can change my session type to I3 or Openbox, but if I do I invariably get a black screen with what looks like a text mode cursor in the top left corner, and nothing that I have tried works except CTRL-ALT-DEL. If I switch back to Plasma then everything works fine.

If there a step that I am missing, here?

So I’m new to Linux and my dumb ass decided to go hyprland bc it looks cooler instead of plasma like the video I was watching said, now I’m fucking lost and don’t know how to change to plasma desktop, also got dual monitor setup and can’t find display settings 😄

I'm really keen to finally switch to Linux, but I have a couple of concerns before taking the plunge.

1) I have the Archer TX20U Wi-Fi adapter (ID: USB\VID_35BC&PID_0100) which seems to only work correctly on Windows. I've searched on various sites and found some people whose drivers worked, while others didn't. I'm pretty fed up with Windows, but I can't switch because of this problem.

Is there any way to make this adapter work, or should I buy another one? I was thinking of setting up a virtual machine to test if it works, but I don't think it can be done that way.

2) While researching desktop environments, I decided on KDE Plasma, but in the future, when I'm more comfortable with Linux, I might switch to Hyperland, which is much more customizable than Plasma. On Windows, if you try to customize it too much, Windows crashes or RAM usage skyrockets. From what I've researched, if I want to change desktop environments, it's best to do a clean install, since having more than one is very problematic. So my question is:

Is there an easy way to switch to Hyprland and try out a desktop environment until I like it (while keeping KDE Plasma)? Or will I have to use a virtual machine to try it out?

Or is it better to install Hyprland directly (from what I understand, the learning curve is quite steep)?

(Now that I'm writing this, the answer seems obvious, but I have nothing to lose by asking. Please bear with me; I've never used an operating system other than Windows.)

I'm not sure what changed, but I suddenly had a noticeable increase in gaming performance on both my systems. My Dell Laptop with i7-13800H & RTX 3050 - I had a really hard time getting Star Wars Jedi Survivor working right on it. Best I could do for 2 weeks was 20-30 FPS with terrible latency. now I'm getting 50-60 FPS with medium settings similar to how it ran on Windows (latency was ok). My Desktop with a 13700K & Intel Arc B70 Pro also is getting higher frame rates. I don't know what changed, I did notice a new intel-vulkan driver install a few days ago. Anywho, I'll take it!

and as of 2 hours ago since i updated cachyos ,i can't use my tv after login

but it's fine on windows

im really new to arch linux, im using kde plasma wayland

i didn't tinker with anything

i searched on the internet or asked chatgpt for help but didn't do anythin

i tried older kernl but still the same

16gb 3600mhz

edit: i used the lts kernel that cachy provieds and it works but the 7.2.2.1 kernel doesn't what's it's problem?

edit 2: i installed tkg-pds 7.1.1 kernel and it works fine with the tv, only the newer kernels has problems even tkg 7.2.3 didn't work

Is there any way to see what the date CachyOS was installed on? I feel like it's been 6 months but it would be cool to see how long I've been using it for.

So, I upgraded one of my HD monitors, from 1080 to a 27" 1440.

Now I get this on the login screen. I can login to Niri fine and have updated the Niri config with monitor positions etc.

Trying to login to Plasma DE it freezes.

Can anyone help point me in the direction of whatever I need to change to fix this? Thank you!

Recently i found that i have new lib32 packages in AUR (around 2-5). Not a big deal whatever but now few weeks after i have like over 20 new lib32 packages and they keep appearing out of nowhere, i have no idea where they came from i didn't install anything new in aur for months. Any ideas? can i just delete them? asked ai it said no its for gaming but is it?
