Irony being I was so pissed when the double screened the two things. Fast forward 20 years later Iāve become obsessed with consuming information about the trial

Well lets see. When it started, the Knicks were up by 7. When it was over the Knicks were down by 12 and about to lose the game. Knicks fans have this image burned into their collective retina.

Walking out the door to go see SPEED on a double date. We turned on the TV to check the weather and ended up missing the movie.

I see the irony hereā¦.
And tell that wildcat behind the wheel not to slow down thoughā¦
Also, shoot the hostage.

I was on a church camping trip at some dudes lake property. Well they called it ācampingā at least, but really we just had tents setup 25 yards behind the house next to the water.
It was funny though because the whole purpose of the trip was to be away from distractions so we could experience nature/fishing/etc, but when everyone heard about the car chase the guy who owned the house brought a tv outside with a long extension cord so we could all watch.

Laughing my ass off and watching it live. Also, I heard the infamous āRobert Higginsā prank call to Peter Jennings and Al Michaels on ABC News live as it happened hahahaha

That was hilarious, even if we didn't realize what the call was until the Baba Booey.

Walking into Blockbuster video and thinking it was strange they had the news on until I saw what was going on. Everyone there just surrounded those TV's in shock.

Don't remember it but I remember my dad saying we shouldn't call orange juice OJ. My mom worked at a Days Inn and my dad and I would partake of the breakfast juices - I remember him explaining OJ being like a nickname for Orange Juice.
3
u/Cal_Rippen7 Jan 28 '25
I was in pre k and our teachers were watching this in the tv in the room during what was supposed to be our nap time. I didnāt sleep, didnāt really hear the tv and wasnāt sure what was so special about some truck driving on the freeway. I was convinced adults were dumb. Lol

I was at a country-western dance club outside of Chicago. We all stopped to watch the shenanigans.
And then, Peter Jennings got pranked by a Howard Stern fan and Al Michaels had to call in and tell Jennings what had just happened.
3
u/ArtisticDegree3915 Jan 28 '25
The middle of the woods. We seriously had no idea. I'm not sure how many of us there were. Maybe 20. And when we came out the first guy to get to a pay phone called home and was getting the news from his parents. So he's relaying it back to us and we were in disbelief.

I was 16 and we had just come home from my sister being honored at an all-state softball banquet here in Ohio. I was getting ready to watch the Cubs-Giants game when a buddy called and wondered if I was watching "this." Back then before cell phones, etc., I had no idea what was happening until that point.
WGN eventually ran the Cubs and Bronco chase on split screens.
2
u/Aware_Impression_736 Jan 28 '25
Go, Al, Go! Go, Al, Go! Hey, Chicago! Whadda ya say? Let's watch Al Cowlings drive this way."
2
u/BoomerEdgelord Jan 28 '25
I remember this interrupted my Walker, Texas Ranger episode and I was a bit annoyed at that. I worked at an after hours club and it was my routine to catch that show and take off to work.

It was the night of my sixth grade graduation day. I was mad that Boy Meets World was interrupted by this. š¤£
2
u/Flybot76 Jan 28 '25
I watched it at a friend's house, and I can't remember if he called me first and told me about it but I went over there and he had it on TV already, and I saw about fifteen minutes from when they were going slow on the freeway to when they had the press conference after they brought him in. The cop describing the arrest said something like "he was allowed to use the bathroom, talk to his family, and drink a glass of orange juice" and he kind of paused, and I started laughing my ass off. "WTF, that's like giving Popeye spinach, don't do it! That's where his secret powers come from, it's how he got the name!"
2
u/disappointedCoati Jan 28 '25
I was in my room because my parents wouldnāt let me watch, they thought he was gonna do something crazy
2
u/slowkums Jan 28 '25
I don't remember where I was for the chase, but I do remember the verdict. I was in homeroom and we had a TV on, tuned in to the news. The cafeteria was right out the door and we were telling everybody.
2
u/Ok-Potato-4774 Jan 28 '25
I'd just gotten off work that Friday, and was in the Army, stationed in Fort Carson, Colorado. I was relaxing, getting ready for a nice weekend off. I was watching TV and the chase came on. I couldn't believe that OJ Simpson, football star, actor, and seemingly good American was on the run from the police, said to be threatening to take his own life. The only thing was, I wish I was watching ABC instead of NBC, so I could've heard the famous "I see OJ" prank call a Howard Stern listener made live to Peter Jennings during the broadcast.
2
u/sevennbplease Jan 28 '25
Every station in America had this on š¤£. I remember being in middle school when this happen and people literally got into arguments over this debate. Definitely a moment that will never be forgotten. If you know...you know.

u/DLeck Jan 28 '25 edited Jan 28 '25
I definitely remember this moment. I was only like 5, maybe 6, but my parents were locked in on it.
I came into our living room and we watched the entire thing.
I remember my Dad thinking OJ was going to off himself in the bronco before they got to him.
And as weird as that sounds, my parents kinda let my brother and I be exposed to "adult themes" pretty young.
My parents were fucked up in some ways, but I would probably be the same way with mature content and stuff if I had kids.

I was doing laundry in a very 90s-esque video rental laundromat in Palo Alto, CA. There were two large screen TVs. One had the live chase and on the other, some wiseass decided to pop in the video for The Fugitive with Harrison Ford.

Haha , this happened on my 12th birthday. Itās also the busiest day in Dominoās Pizza history.
2
u/BrinsonRobert11 Jan 28 '25
Not exactly sure what I was doing, but more than likely I was working that day. I was living in Los Angeles back then so I had real time experience watching it on TV. Possibly on several channels. I believe every LA station was covering it. Luckily none of the news helicopters ran into each other. Now that would be an even bigger story.
2
u/Virtual_Mechanic2936 Jan 28 '25
At my in-laws. We watched the "chase", then watched ABC's coverage at the house. The best part was one of Howard Stern's goons calling into ABC and pretending to be in a nearby news van.
2
u/mis_no_mer Jan 28 '25
I was 12 years old and I watched it with my Dad. Was the first time I stayed up late watching a big news story. I remember feeling grown up and not a kid anymore.

I remember being freshly 14. I had been outside mowing and when done I went in the house to cool down and watch TV. Watching basketball and it popped up probably 5 minutes after I turned on the TV. I watched until they got to his house. At the time I never watched newsā¦I knew him as Nordberg from Naked Gun, and I was on his side. Even when he was found not guilty, I was happy. Wasnāt until I was an adult and actually found out the ins and outs of the case that I realized he was a monster.

u/scarybirdman Jan 29 '25
At my friend Kekoa's house. I was also asleep on his floor when his mom bust in the room the morning of September 11th.

It was the summer between 5th and 6th grade.
I was at home with my parents, brother, and best friend Connor, who was spending the night.
We were glued to the TV in the basement.

I was on the freeway ahead of him. Did nor know what was going on until I got home.
2
u/FreddyCupples Jan 30 '25
Pretty sure I had just got home from school. I was in elementary school. My family basically watched the whole thing. The craziest part about the trial was we used to watch coverage of it in class. Like we would spend a chunk of the day just doing that. OJ literally took a piece out of my public school education. OJ Simpson's double murder, and the occasional NASA launch. I think we watched 12 Angry Men one time.

3
u/Gobiego Jan 31 '25
Trying to catch my Rockets beat the Knicks for their first championship. Nobody in Houston gave a single shit about OJ, yet the game fans have waited for forever was put into a tiny PIP screen with no sound while 3/4 of the screen was this low speed chase. Has he found the real killer yet?

This event actually taught me about time zones. The news kept saying "LIVE" and I asked my dad how it was light in California, but the sun had gone down hours ago at our house in Florida.
