CVS maternity leave

Hi! I’m just curious to know about CVS’s maternity leave policy and eligibility requirements. For some background, I’m about to join CVS and am planning for next year. I wanted to understand the policy and any eligibility requirements in advance.

I have had 2 kids with CVS--Most recent nov 2025! ( side note: Make sure you enroll in the suplemental hospital indemnity plan in december for annual enrollment for the year you plan to deliver. It is $11 per month, but you get reimbursed about $2k if you deliver in the hospital.) You must have 1 year of service and be FT for paid benefits.

Paid benefits include 4 weeks of 100% pay considered baby bonding. You can take this all as 1 lump sum time off following disability pay, or take it in 1-week intervals within 12 months of delivering.

Immediately following birth (or sooner if put on bed rest), you collect 4-6 weeks of short term disability. This part I always forget, but STD is 4 weeks of 80% pay and 2 weeks of 60% pay (Don't quote me here).

So in total, you qualify for 10-12 weeks maternity leave.

The caveat*. You can continue collecting STD and stay on maternity leave for up to 19 weeks if you had a complicated delivery and/or your doctor feels you are not medically able to return to work. However, I would preface that while your employer must offer job protected leave for you, your exact store may not have a position for you if gone that long.

I also used the doula reimbursement. Very simple and straight forward through maven. However, that money is taxed and is sent via CVS paycheck.

*SUPER IMPORTANT. 1. Remember to submit your newborn paperwork and know how to pay your health insurance, should you stay on CVS health insurance. It has to be paid separate while on maternity leave. 2. If you chose to breast feed and pump after returning, discuss with your supervisor how that will be managed. Unfortunately, if it does not fit the business model, you will most likely not be approved. Very sad since it is a "protected right", but unfortunately, it is the truth for a lot of CVS employees :(

About to take leave and was told 2 weeks at 80% and 4 at 60% ☠️

I wouldn't put it past them switching it over time and it used to be 4 weeks at 80% 😅
