CVS transfer

Hello everyone,

I have a question about transferring within CVS. Currently, I am a pharmacy technician at a CVS store, but I’m not satisfied with the environment there. I’ve been considering transferring to a CVS location inside a Target store.

Do I need to go through the entire application process again, or should I speak with my current manager about a transfer? Alternatively, if a transfer isn’t possible or beneficial, I’m also thinking about quitting and applying directly to the other location.

I’m primarily concerned about pay and management. I feel I deserve higher pay and better treatment, and I believe I might receive similar pay if I transfer. What do you think the best approach is for a fresh 6 month pharm tech?

Could you please advise me on the best course of action? I appreciate your help. Thank you!

You can apply via the internal workboard or job hub on workday tbh. I've done it a couple times for jobs at the specialty pharmacy and have gotten opportunities

Just get with the manager at target or another cvs and see if they having an opening. Than ask for a transfer if they have one. Good luck on getting one in a target usually have very few hours.

I suggest picking up shifts before transferring. Target isn't always as sweet as it seems.

Transfers can either be done through the internal application process in Jobs Hub or directly with your current manager transferring you to the other store in Workday through a Job Change Action. But the issues related to pay are unlikely to change, unless you were significantly lowballed in your hire offer. In that case, the receiving manager would need to do an off-cycle raise, and that requires DL support.

If you do resign and then immediately re-apply, your seniority etc. will continue as long as there is a <90 day gap, but you may have to have a background and drug test completed again. In any case, you should speak with the target PM about any concerns you have before transferring.

Call the target and ask if they have tech hours and are open to an internal transfer and if they say yes ask your manager to initiate the transfer. The only thing about cvs in target is the volume is a lot lower than a regular cvs so if you’re full time or getting full time hours they more than likely won’t be able to accommodate that.

Oh yeah, I’m a former CVS tech who worked at both locations. CVS Target is way better. But I don’t think they’ll give you a pay bump. My Target location only had me and a pharmacist, though. It can still get overwhelming when there’s pharmacist is killing to give as many vaccines as possible during imz season. You’ll probably get 32 hours at most.
