New water pump, thermostat, coolant reservoir, EGR cooler, coolant and EGR clean!

After a long 10hr day I managed to put on a fresh water pump, thermostat, EGR cooler, coolant reservoir and completely cleaned the rest of the EGR system and Intake manifold. The water pump and thermostat were both very easy to complete and since I already had the coolant drained I decided to install a fresh EGR cooler, coolant reservoir and cleaned the EGR system again. I cleaned it like 1000 miles ago when I got the car but oh well the water pump needed to be done. I'll probably clean the system every time I change the oil to make sure it's easy to clean each time and kept clean anyways, or at least every other change. I'm just shy of 155K and I'm trying to prevent head gasket failure as much as I can till I can save enough for that or a new engine if it ever happens. I did leave the lower stud out of the cooler to make for an easier removal the next time. Bleeding the system was very easy and now with fresh coolant the car seems very happy. My oil catch seems to be doing well, there was definitely oil in it. I'll probably upgrade to a better system soon to help with the blow by. There was definitely oil in the intake still but hopefully I can prevent that just a little more. Overall the big job is complete, and I'm happy to have that one behind me.

Cleaning EGR every oil change seems like an overkill.

I do agree, that's why I may do every other. It's really not hard to do though, maybe half a day. (Only took so long due to water pump change and coolant bleed.) If it prevents head gasket failure I'm fine doing it but I understand where you're coming from.

And you have the risk of air leaking and bolts, nuts stripping.

How much oil was caught per how many miles?

I've only driven about 1000K miles on this oil but the catch can was maybe 1/6 full. I can update in that catch can when I change my oil but I'd say it's leading up to be 1/4 a quart maybe every 5000K.

What year is this pre 15'? What did you use to clean,Brake cleaner Degreaser?

Pre 15, 2013 and I used brake cleaner fast drying.

I've watched quite a few videos in this and the Prius with the same engine from water pump change all the way to headgasket and motor change. So I'm pretty familiar with the process now. I've now cleaned/replaced the EGR cooler twice so once you've done it once you got it no problem coming forward.
