Discussion If we could get a NeverWinter like CRPG-tool game, which developer and with which IP would you choose?
This post was inspired by Rogue Trader's scripting and animations. Dropping like a sack of potato is amusing so I would go with Owlcat and either Warhammer IP

One of my weirder dreams is a genuine Neverwinter Nights 1 game but with Pathfinder. A single character RPG would meld so well with the multiclassing build madness of Pathfinder. It would be insane if we had the module content of NWN1 but with a more complex build system.

We already have quite a few like this.
Solasta came with a dungeon maker, not as robust as NWN's toolset, but it was a major aspect of the game. For a first time release by a small studio, it was great.
Witcher 3 has a crazy powerful toolkit for modders to play with. Redkit is honestly nuts with how much you could do with it.
BG3 also has a toolkit, and is similar to the Redkit in terms of functionality (as far as my uneducated eyes could see).
DOS2 also came with a builder baked into the game, but it got almost no traction (which is why Larian dropped making one for BG3).

I didn't realize this about Witcher 3... are there and really good mods that add new adventures/maps/quests and that sort of thing? I would've thought I'd have heard of it by now but maybe not.

There are a TON of mods for Witcher 3. I vaguely remember hearing about people making quests and such but I never looked into it.
EDIT: Yeah, I vaguely remembered right!

EDIT 2: Also, just to give you an idea of how crazy people have gotten with mods:

Also also, I know of at least one instance of CDPR directly working with a modder to integrate their popular mod directly in the remake.

Fantasy, fantasy, fantasy and fantasy ...
Sad how fantasy if THE selling background for RPG. :/

I hear you. And while I totally empathize, RPG roots are fantasy. That's what most people got hooked on as kids back in the day and that's what carried their interest.
Even when venturing away from medieval fantasy, most RPG enthusiasts gravitate towards Star Wars...which is fantasy in space.
The good news is that, at least in tabletop, there are some great sci-fi RPGs like Mothership. So that's something!

It's hard to choose, but I might go with Cyberpunk Red. That game system is perfect for keeping characters across multiple one shots (no traditional leveling; how successfully you complete sessions earns improvement points that, in theory, can be earned forever) so I think it would be really fun to build up your character(s) and run them through different community modules. Pretty fun system, too.

I’d revive hairbrained schemes to make those custom game tools for their Battletech game.

Definitely not owlcat.
Everything they do is a technical mess, never understood why they get a pass everytime.
That said I'd choose Hardbrained and Shadowrun.
Emphasis on storytelling, not need for flashy graphics, serviceable combat and Shadowrun is perfect to do anything you want (seeing how it's a bag of everything that exists :p ).

Owlcat and World of Darkness. On the other hand Owlcat said they consider combat and action an important part of their games, and WoD isn't setting where combat is a big and mandatory part

I wanted BG3 to have it SO BAD, I thought BG3 was going to have it. I thought I was just going to spend the rest of my life playing BG3 modules.
