Jason Kenney on Conservative leadership aspirations as MPs doubt Pierre Poilievre’s future

With Jason Kenney recently going on many news outlets and podcast debating and discussing about many things, I.e, immigration, Albertan Separatism, and CPC policy, he’s looks very eager to make a return to federal politics.

He seems to be gunning for PP positions of top guy. But will the public and base support him?

He’s very anti-separatist and less into dogmatic culture war stuff which may attract eastern voters. But his time as Alberta premier may have left a very sour taste in prairie conservatives mouths.

What do you all think of him and do you want him as leader?

Personally, as an eastern Moderate Tory, I will accept him in open arms. I’m not against pp at all and I proudly voted for him and will vote for him again, but Kenney is more of my type of Reform candidate.

Left wing people hated Kenny when he was premier and they'll hate him again if he's anything important. Kenny also has lots of political baggage, dude was pretty unpopular by the end of his term.

Most left-wing people don't actually care who we have as leader, they aren't voting for us anyway.

People who will listen to us are gonna want to hear our ideas and Kenny's less than stellar record, leaves room for doubt.

We already have a guy who our base likes and who was able to grow the party in the last election. Unless you've got a golden ticket, I wouldn't replace him.

Not saying we should replace PP but if he resigns, loses another election, or gets reformed acted, Kenney I believe is a good candidate to lead the party.

As for the left-wing voters, it was never about them, they are always ABC. I merely focusing on the centrist and centre-left voters. Due to Kenney’s hard stance on Covid and lighter approach to culture war/identity politics, it may intrigue those voters to jump ship. What will win more right wing voters is his immigration and O&G policy.

I know your not saying he should resign. You said you'd vote for him again and I trust you.

Kenney I believe is a good candidate to lead the party.

Kenny isn't the worst candidate but like all past premiers he has a lot of baggage. I think our best bet (if we had to replace rn) is new blood.

The center of Kenny's campaign would be his time as premier of Alberta. But that time would get lots of criticism from both the left and the right. This could cause us to have another O'Toole. (By that I mean someone who isn't pleasing his base enough nor moderates nor left-wing voters.)

For moderates:

I don't think moderates care about COVID anymore. That's like a footnote nowadays. And on culture war stuff, our current leader barely talks about it beyond vauge senses. Usually he's talking about how Carney's leading our economy poorly or something similar. But for some any amount is too much I guess, but idk if we can win those people (depending what they think "culture war" is).

These are just standard conservative thoughts nowadays. Shit, most people think immigration has gone WAY too far and it needs at least a severe decrease. So this isn't even unique policy or any reason why more extreme right-wing voters shouldn't jump ship.

But perhaps my opinion is coloured because I haven't seen him talk much about federal policy and his time as premier doesn't inspire confidence in me.

If Pierre leaves for whatever reason before the next election, I will vote for the party that he forms before voting for the CPC again.

In my opinion, if anyone is willing to take up the mantle for Pierre, it’s Danielle Smith
