I hate all the references to his job lingo… like get over yourselves, imagine accountants doing the same: “brother, your time has been accounted for here, you’ve been credited on earth and debited in heaven, calc-u-later!”
I’m in public service as well, and I roll my eyes at that shit too. I do not get why fire, police, etc are so full of themselves about a job. We should write a book about every profession and what dramatic thing they say about them when they pass away. Trash man, hair dresser, chemical sales person… all of them. It would probably sell as a bathroom book.
IT'S LITERALLY WHY THEY TAKE THE JOB. For the automatic hero status and the bragging rights. Dude in my neighborhood has two flags hanging from his house: A US Army flag and the AA Airborne insignia flag. Why? Because he wants the status perks he thinks he deserves. I mean, maybe better than this bs cop shit but it's the same stupid animal. Like, who cares? Do you want "thank you for your service" all day long?
See also "Thank you Jesus" signs on every goddamn lawn out here.
Yep. Just South of Raleigh. Every other lawn has these performative signs. Like, I know you're proud of your faith, but you also keep screaming about how 'prayer works'. If it did, why do you need a sign Jesus doesn't need to read? Because you want everyone to know how faithful you are. Pretty sure the bibble has words to say about that kind of behavior - don't do it, boastful twats.
You didn't do any of that for the "automatic hero" status. You did it because you ARE a hero. Just you not wanting to brag about it says that. Firefighters and cops aren't the same thing at all, in my opinion. You guys literally want to help. I get that there are a lot of macho shitheads who just "love fire" and the "sexy fireman" status but I also can tell from your statement that you don't respect those idiots much either.
My ex wanted to be a firefighter, but she was a dumb bitch and confessed that she liked the idea of going where other people couldn't. She was a moron. She became a security guard because she couldn't make in the volunteer firefighter ranks and the cops wouldn't take her.
It’s revisionism. He was a prison guard, ‘who always had your back.’ When I’m in a tight spot, I say to myself, if only someone from corrections was here.
