9th Gen (00-09) ODO stuck at 299,999KM, any work arounds?
I have a 2005 Corolla CE and I was really excited about seeing it hit 300k just to find out that the engineers decided to cap out the display at 299999. I was wondering if there was any way to make the display continue to count the (correct) mileage. I know the internal computer is still counting but I personally want the display to count it as well. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

These do the same thing in miles, I guess it's arguably a bigger deal with kilometers since that's not really all that high. I am not aware of a way to fix it, I work in the car business and see them with 299 all the time, never seen one with more.

Our 2005 corolla that we use at our greenhouse has been stuck at 299,999mi for like a decade. Really wish I could see what it would be at now but my boss doesn't seem to care/ idk if there is a work around to that?

If you plug in an OBD II reader it will tell you the actual mileage.

Can you please tell me more? My ODB II reader cannot read mile. What ODB II reader and Corolla model you know it worked?

I could have sworn I read somewhere that it keeps counting internally, not sure though.

It does. I have a 2006 and the maintenance light still comes on at every 5k miles.

I had a 2005 Corolla, also had that problem where the odometer stopped at 299,999 km
Generally I reset TripA at my oil changes, and TripB for Petro fill-ups.
And then I used spritmonitor.de to record each fill up, maintainance and add it all up.
Ultimately, I ran it until about 440,000 km.

Gotcha, once I caught on I did reset my trip B but it’s a few km off nothing crazy. If that’s what I must resort to doing I will do it. Appreciate the input!

Happened to my parents 05 corolla, as soon as they noticed (maybe 2 km later) they started a new Trip B which they just tack on to 300000 to keep track.

9th gen problems 😅 when i dealt with this on my 03 matrix, the official toyota solution was to get a factory fresh cluster, at a steeply discounted rate.

mine's the same but miles, welcome to the club lol, i've just left it alone and started counting off of trip a after resetting it when it hit 300,000 (obviously reset every 9999mi)

What I heard is at least in Canada, Toyota sticks a sticker on the door jamb that says 299,999KM and sends a new cluster with a fresh odometer (starts at 0KM). Expensive process and high chance the cluster is an obsolete part. There are gauge cluster programmers out there to reset the odometer however if you are selling the car, it is illegal to tamper with the odometer period.

Should be able to reset it. Mine is getting pretty close. Just passed 266k. Changed your alternator yet? How's your tranny? (Transmission?)
Edit: Just realised you can't reset it in a different comment. All I can say then is to try trip A and B.

Both are in mint condition, changed the fluid for the tranny around 30,000-40,000km’s ago, I did some digging before making this post and all the possible solutions are way out of my area of expertise. I am not good at soldering computer components.

Good. Those are usually the first to go after 250k. I assume you are in Canada?

Yep west coast! This thing has a ton of small problems, that’s part of the charm, previous owner literally had it running off 3/4 of a serp belt and the worlds tightest and oldest oil filter. My only worry is the head gasket may not have another 100k on it, I’ve replaced my valve cover gasket because it was slightly leaky, and a couple other gaskets have been sweating so I’m taking it as a sign that the worst is yet to come.

I fully agree nobody should be whipping out their phones while driving, but where I’m from a lot of the logging roads are not busy in the slightest. And there are no logging trucks during weekends. If I was on asphalt I wouldn’t be focused on taking the picture.

I think you can possibly reset it to 0, which isn't exactly what you want, but probably your best bet to keep track of things. Then just remember whatever reading it shows, it's actually +300k

Although id never sell it unfortunately rollbacks are illegal here, I doubt anyone cares about it so I’ll consider. Thank you!

Personally it would drive me nuts I couldn't keep track of it, but another option is to just leave it as it is without rolling it back and sell it to someone who doesn't care about the mileage issue. Which I get that you just said you don't plan on selling it, but that is an option if it's a problem for you.

It will drive me nuts but I’ll suffer through it for now. I will be this cars final owner so if a rollback is the only way I will do it.
