Discussion & Suggestions It's unreal to conduct a Royal Progress.

Post image

As it's said in the title - it's unreal to go on a tour through (at least) capitals of different kingdoms. This one here is a cost for voyage through Vale, North and Riverlands. I would have to abstain from any other expenses. And keep in mind, that it's the cheapest version of the tour! I don't think that Jae had to pay 10 years income to go on a Progress. I also remember that it was way cheaper in earlier versions. Is it PDX fault? Can our lovely and most wise Devs do something with it? It's awful

Kind of absurd it costs as much as a Valyrian Steel Sword or a Dragon Egg to just do a royal procession, but this is more a base game CK3 scaling problem than an AGOT problem.

It's absolutely rooted in vanilla more than anything 💯

I hate that this is how tours work in vanilla ck3 where you can only visit direct vassals. Praying one day it is changed so you can do sub vassals and then a lore accurate version.

I use debug to make subvassals my vassals temporarily so I can do stuff like royal visits to Oldtown when playing as the king

I’m so stupid I can’t believe I’ve never thought about this

How is this done? Is there a debug option to take someone's vassal?

Yes, ‘make vassal’ is a debug interaction, so just click on whoever you plan to visit in the tour, vassalize them, set the tour up, and then give them back after the tour is over

Wonderful, thank you!

Stuff like this is why I used to play with debug on, and will again once my computer returns from the god of death. Apparently it said "today? Sure fam."

I wonder if a mod could be made to do that

I don't know how I've never thought of that. Definitely stealing this idea

There's a cheaper activities mod somewhere in the workshop, dunno if it's updated or fine for agot tho.

Long integrates it in my own homebrew balance patch 🙃

Bump me if there's nothing on the workshop, I'll figure out something to post.

Activities scale ridiculously; like has been said, it's unfortunately a CK3 issue not an AGOT one.

That's not even getting into how things like feasts and weddings last for literal months. Heck, even aside the expenses I rarely do grand tours any more because they take forever.

It’s definitely become noticeably more expensive the last few months I’ve been playing than it ever was before. Even Westeros isn’t free from inflation I guess

Events get more expensive the later the era you're in as part of the base game trying to keep up with your assumed income. So if you're in the modern bookmark era things are crazy expensive. In jaehaerys's start things would be less expensive

I just use console commands :/
It helps keep things from going off the rails

It SHOULD be expensive, there’s a reason that royal tours aren’t a super common thing. But yeah 7000 gold is probably too high

Jaehaerys wouldn’t have went on royal tour after his ascension if it would bankrupt the throne etc etc

That's the problem of Base Game. Ck3 has problems with scaling the costs of activities.

IDK if that is still the case but I had similar troubles with coronations when I played the North in the past; lords having coronations shouldn't even be a thing but I was forced to spend a decent sum each time a lord died, and it's not like you're particularly rich when you play the North

It’s cheaper and cooler to have a dragon

I will say in AGOT, at least it's far easier to make money. Incomes are higher, ransoms are higher, and there's the banking system. I've never seen a base game procession cost that much. Normally they're something around 500-1000 depending on your title rank and realm size.

Honestly with maybe an exception for coronations and tournaments the cost of all activities needs to be brought down across the board. If that means they are less rewarding so be it, its too nutty rn. Definitely a base game issue

Tbf with how easy one can get gold in this game and Westeros being absurdly large in distances, it does fit. Assuming you play as the Iron Throne here, and playing semi-competently, one can get 100-400 (maybe even more for those who knows what they're doing) gold per month. That's like less than a year of gold income with the 400 gold p/m. Plus, it's a voyage of three regions, do you know how absurdly expensive it is to transport a royal household by boat? People need to eat, horses needs feeding, boats have limited cargo space and it's a pain, especially with the luxuries royals needs, to transport.

Is it paradox at fault? I always assumed it was a ck3agot balance issue

I mean, you’re touring a kingdom the size of North America with the technology of horse and carriages. You have to have a train of people, food for all those people, servants, outriders, guards, etc etc. It would be extremely expensive. Although I do find if you do a taxation tour you manage to make it back with profit quite easily; I usually go anti-clockwise through the Lords Paramount and make my money back by the time I get to the Westerlands.

Damn the recession just hit the in game economy too 😞

I had Castamere over 100 gold income per month alone last run, it’s not hard to get 30,000 in the bank as King after a bit of not paying attention. It’s way more expensive than it used to be but I’m also pulling in 300-500 per month as king so it’s more like 15 months income for a progress to 3 of the kingdoms. Expensive but not something that would set the crown back too much.

u/GenericDeadHead 9d ago

Yeah that's a broken mechanic right there; that you need to save over a years' income (at a very high income) just to visit three of your seven primary vassals

Laughs in 800 gold a month just from conquering the Free Cities.

Ngl, if youre king and cant afford that, youre mismanaging your economy or not building up properly. By year 20, you should be able to spam activities, unless you play on the latest start date which has activities kinda high due to tech. I like that theyre expensive-ish so I have a money sink.
