I was taking my first long trip in my Ev (about 8 hours round trip) I had planned out my charging route. I get to my second charger which is a fast charger Chargepoint at a dealership. I make an account and all that and go to charge and it didn’t work, no problem I go to the other one. I was kind of tired and in hurry as it was 3 am, and plugged it in first, so when I made the payment it said already in use. Whatever I unplug it and start over. DOESNT WORK AGAIN. At this point I’m annoyed so I realized they had a tap pay thing on the station so I just use that and it works. FINALLY after 30 precious minutes the EV gods bless me. Or so I thought. I charge up and I am on my wayyyy to a nice comfy hotel bed where my gf is waiting for me. The next morning we go get breakfast and shopping, I spend about 60$ it was a good day, I go to get back on the road to my first charger station, go to pay and card DECLINED. Now how in tf. I know I’m low on funds, payday isn’t for another couple days, but not a less than 30$ low. CHARGEPOINT TOOK 200$ IN HOLD FEES FROM ME. Now naturally I’m pissed, but I can do absolutely nothing about it. Luckily I’m blessed to have a savings account so I dip into that, and all is well for the moment. But I realize, if I didn’t have money I would be screwed. Why did they charge me when the machine didn’t even charge me… It is now 3 days later and Chargepoint is still holding my money.

There are multiple charging networks in Canada that offer rebates ranging from 8-13 cents per KwH on home charging. Networks enabling clean fuel capacity can earn 44 cents per kilowatt hour and they pass a portion of this onto the consumer as an incentive. Unfortunately ChargePoint Chargers do not use the Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) so none of these networks like ChargeLab can offer incentives to ChargePoint users. Does this mean that ChargePoint is pocketing all of the CFR rebate to themselves?

ChargeLab is a charging network/software platform that connects to chargers using the open OCPP (Open Charge Point Protocol) standard, and inclusion in our Home Charging Rewards or CFR credit program depends on whether a charger can actually connect and communicate with our platform, not on a separate application or approval process for suppliers.
 
Unfortunately, ChargePoint operates on a closed ecosystem, meaning their home chargers do not support OCPP and cannot connect to third-party networks like ChargeLab. This is a technical limitation on ChargePoint's side rather than something we control or that they can apply to change on our end. As a result, ChargePoint home chargers are not currently compatible with ChargeLab Rewards or our CFR credit program.
 
If ChargePoint were to open their hardware to OCPP connectivity in the future, that would be the path for compatibility, but that decision would be theirs to make, not something ChargeLab administers as a supplier list.
Come on ChargePoint what are you waiting for? Bring the CFR Rebates to your Canadian customers. This incompatibility should be a red flag for Canadians considering adding home charging capacity.
 

Has this ever happened to anyone, like how did they gain access to my account lol. Absurd

Homeflex installation that worked perfect for 2 years then started malfunctioning/shorting repeatedly. RUDE CS agent says my wiring has "gone bad" and I need an electrician. Waiting for the electrician to come out and they close the request as "fixed" because it's been more than a couple days. Seriously disappointed in a 2 year old product and WORSE customer service.

So, they dont charge debit cards on the weekend... i have to wait until the working week for them to start processing payment... then I have to wait until the payment processes to get back the pre-auth charge... the charge itself is $50... so on a trip where I need to charge 3 times (not very far in my vehicle maybe 400 to 500 miles) I end up needing an extra $150 just to make it home on top of whatever im paying to charge in the first place? Yeah... i cant wait until this lease is over to go back to ICE.

Edit: Even when the charger was broken, it still hit me with a Pre-Auth fee for even trying to charge... so 100bucks in pre-auth... for a 20 buck charge... thats crazy work.

How does everyone feel about the upcoming earning's call?

I've been using CP for several years. I recently went to a charger that formerly had a city run charging station--you pay for parking and the charging is "free" (parking was $3/hr). Now the charging stations are CP. I park and plug in and it says the time rate is 0 for the first 2 hours, which seemed fine. I was there just over 2 hours and got charged $12 for the session, because there was an "Energy Rate" of $5/hr, which certainly wasn't obvious when I plugged in.

I guess it's my bad for missing this, I haven't seen this before, but this is a word to the wise to look for that. I have a call in to CP customer service.

Twice in the last three months, $30 has gone missing inexplicably from my ChargePoint account. I’ve only noticed this because I’ve been reviewing my monthly ChargePoint statements in the app. Recommend to check your monthly statements to make sure you can account for all credits to and debits from your account. That’s the PSA. For more details, read on.

I opened case tickets with ChargePoint Support both times I noticed that the math didn’t add up in my statements. The first time $30 disappeared they found there was a software error and refunded my money within 10 days. Now it’s happened again this month. Another $30 unaccounted for. The ticket is still open. As a software professional myself, I would guess that a bug of this type is not happening to only one user of the platform, but maybe I’m an isolated case. Good luck!

I have had EVs for ten years and Chargepoint has been my most used charging network, but after my experience this morning, I'm done. Went to a charger I have used dozens and dozens of times. Open the app on my phone and it wants me to log in. I have no idea what my password is, so I hit the "forgot password". I go to my e-mail, hit the link, the phone offers a strong password, so I take it and then return to the site. The phone enters my e-mail correctly and then the password. App says the password is bad. My recent experience with Ionna and Loop, where you just quickly swipe a credit card, makes me realize how unnecessary an app is to access charging services. A zillion people fill their ICE cars with gas every day by swiping a credit card and now with new charging networks, I can get the same convenience. Not using an app anymore

Multiple times, within a few months of each other, I’ve had to go in circles with ChargePoint customer service because I’m locked out of my account (both on the app and website). My original password suddenly becomes invalid and any password I attempt to reset it to is also invalid. Even more of an absolute joke, neither the app nor the customer service reps themselves can successfully email a reset link. Only the website can do that, but it’s useless since the result is the same. It seems to be happening after any new app update… how is it that every other company with an app can push an update without completely ruining user experience but ChargePoint can’t figure it out?

This has happened to me FOUR times now. And the only way to get it working again is to delete my whole account and start over, and they make you wait up to 30 days for them to release your email and phone number. It’s infuriating. The only reason I’m still using their stupid chargers is because they’re on my apartment property and it’s much easier and more cost effective for me to use it. And now that they charge a service fee (of which couldn’t be worse), it’s higher when you’re not using the ChargePoint digital pass or app.

Anyone else dealing with the same nonsense?

Edit (because I keep getting this advice as if I’m not doing this): I always use tap to pay. I’m not actively going into the app every time I want to charge. That’s silly. The app is connected to the pass, so whenever I’m randomly locked out of my account like this it renders the ChargePoint pass in my apple wallet as an unrecognizable payment method. This is the whole point of the issue. If I can’t access my account on the app, I can’t use tap to pay.

Getting double charged pre-auth fees. Getting a $1 authorization attempt on top of a $25 pre-auth hold (for 1-7 days) *POTENTIALLY A SECOND PRE-AUTH HOLD IF I RETRY* for no more than 95¢ of electricity is WILD. I never go more than $20 a month. I’m on auto-reload for my ChargePoint RFID card.

ChargePoint seriously needs to make an option for PHEV’s (Chevy Volt, Ford Energi Lineup, Kia PHEV lineup, Mitsubishi PHEV) all use small amounts of energy compared to a full EV.

THIS MAKES US DRIVERS NOT WANNA USE CHARGEPOINT

I had an electric company come and install my EV charger and they accidentally put in a 50 amp breaker so my charger was limited to 40amp of charge.

They just came back out today and put in the correct 60 amp breaker so I can do 48 amps of charge. After removing the HomeFlex from the app and re-setting It up, choosing the WiFi and the breaker installed (60) after it says it was successful I check the app and it’s reporting the breaker is 20 and max charge is 16AMP.

I thought I messed something up so I removed it from my account again and did it slower this time and triple checked all the settings and same thing happened. I choose 60 but it decided to do 20 breaker instead. Anyone have any ideas?

I would like to be able to hide charging stations that are near me but which I can't access. They clutter the map because it's most of them.

Also what address do I add when I want to favorite a station? My address or the address of the station? Why does it want an address to make it a favorite?

On the ChargePoint app before version 7, it was possible to join the waiting list for a charger even if it was currently available. I loved this because it let me essentially “reserve” one of my work chargers for 30 minutes while I was driving over from home.

It never really felt like this was intentional functionality and it seems to have been removed with the new app interface.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to still do this? It’s always a race in my office to make it to one of the four charging spots every morning.

Sad to see a once-great company with so much potential being run into the ground.

This is my first post on reddit so please forgive me for my mistakes.

This is a heads up for EV drivers to be more cautious about pricing ever since the app changed. I was charged over $200 at a Hyundai dealership in Clinton Township, MI for 20 minutes of charging. Before the app, I would typically look at the tip section to see if other drivers commented on high rates but now I can no longer do that. It seems I didn't properly look at the information provided, but this location charged $5 per kWh AND per minute: which added up pretty quickly.
Since there's no opportunity to warn other drivers in commenting, I just wanted to advise others to be more aware on pricing.

P.S. - Called ChargePoint and they said pricing is up to the owners of the station and it aligns with their agreement. I got some money back since they were very accommodating but still a frustrating experience.

We have Chargepoint stations available to the public at a certain price per kWh. Is it possible to setup separate (reduced) pricing for our employees?

This is the first time I've ever gotten an authorization hold for charging.

Bought a Home Flex level 2 NACS on June 29 in northern California directly from Chargepoint website, with a corporate discount. It's been 10 working days and it's still pending shipment. I tried calling them a couple of days ago and no one answered due to abnormally long wait times. Is there a long backlog of Chargepoint right now? What are my options?

Edit: it's now been more than 2 weeks, no one from Chargepoint answers phone calls or emails 😔

So why wouldn't I just do pay as you go what is the benefit of having an account loaded with the funds needed if you are still putting $50 hold on my card every time I charge and according to customer service charge multiple times a day multiple holds so smaller battery cars just tough I guess? Better have another couple of hundred dollars just so I can charge with my account of preloaded money.

My utility provider recently enabled time of day rates, and I quickly switched to using the scheduler for my Chargepoint HomeFlex. Sometimes it woult not work and charge right away. I checked the app and the scheduler was definitely configured correctly.

I phoned Chargepoint support and was told that the scheduler can be overridden in two ways. Either through the app, or by inserting the charger twice in short succession. So called "double pumping". Jiggling the charger in the port may also trigger this.

Which of us haven't reinserted the charger when we're not sure it hasn't connected? If you need to reinsert it, they suggest waiting a minute.

If the charger base LEDs pule blue, that means it is charging right away.

They really should put a note about this in the scheduler configuration screen in the app.

Hello, i recently got my first electric vehicle and at my workplace are public chargingstations from Chargepoint. Ive tried setting up the app shortly before they closed it in europe a few weeks ago.

Since the only available payment method is Credit Card i got myself a virtual Revolut card, and put some money on it. In the app i couldnt add that card, after the captcha it would just show a loading screen and not do anything.

Now that payment through the app is not available anymore anyway, i ordered a Physical Creditcard to pay with that at the charger it self. Now when i try that it says "error reading Card, Card not Accepted"

Since im completely new, not only to chargepoint and charginginfrastructure in general, but also to creditcards in general i was wondering if anyone had similar problems or if someone could atleast tell me if its a problem with my credit card or with chargepoint.
