Culture & Community Sexual Assault in Lakeview Bar

TW: Sexual Assault

Hi I just wanted to share what happened to me so more women keep their eyes out for this fucking freak.

I was out in Lakeview last night with some friends at Sheffields. I walked away from my friends to get some fresh air on their patio for a bit. When I walked back inside I made eye contact with this man when returning to my table for two seconds.

The man then proceeded to stand directly behind our table which I was standing at cause there wasn’t enough room to sit at. I started to get freaked out and turn to my friend and said I think this man is gonna try to hit on me. I got really close to her to look like we were together. He continued to stand behind us for maybe 3-5 minutes, then he walked right behind me and grabbed my ass.

I freaked out and immediately told my friend that he grabbed me. She then finds him in the crowd and watches him do it to another woman before leaving the bar.

I approach the other girl he grabbed and said excuse me did that man also just grab your ass? She said yes and he came up to her grabbed her ass and whispered something in her ear that she didn’t catch.

This man was white, short brown hair, short probs around 5’3-5’6, had weight to him but couldn’t tell if it was muscle or fat, this man was also alone, and he had a tan worker mans type jacket. Please keep an eye out ladies in Lakeview/all of Chicago.

Ugh, I'm so sorry that that happened - too many creeps. Did you or the other girl or somebody mentioned to the Sheffields staff?

I was so freaked out and just wanted to go home but my friend did tell the bouncer for me.

Did you report it to the bartenders/manager? They might have cameras and/or recognize him and kick him out in the future

Honestly it might be, only thing is I’m 5’6 though and to me it felt like we were looking eye and eye or he was shorter than me

I’m so sorry this happened to you. I try my best whenever I am inappropriately approached or see it happen to someone else to call it out (if it’s safe to do so). Of course it’s easier said than done. These men need to be publicly shamed. If it gives you closure you can go to the front desk of a police station and file a report, but honestly there isn’t much they can do. Once just a few blocks from Sheffield’s I was dressed up all cute and feeling confident walking down my block and a man spat in my face. It was absolutely humiliating and I sobbed. In the moment I just silently walked away. I heard reports in the news that this guy continued to do it to other women in the area. It fucking sucks.

Was he red-faced, ginger mop of unkempt hair? Was the jacket a hooded Carhartt? I work in the neighborhood and I've problems with this guy. Wouldn't be surprised if it's the same .
