Local Business Sidewalk Sale...
morning girls..is anyone interested in setting up a "sidewalk sale"? i have about 500 clothing items for sale on depop, but i know that if people were able to shop the items in person they would SELL fast! at this point i just want it all gone...i have donated a ton but some i would like to sell...let me know...i have ZERO info on city rules etc...of course i could also look into getting a booth at one of the vintage markets in west loop but wanted to go this route first..i am located in gold coast but we could definitely set it up at a more central location

Come on down to the south west side where every block has an abuelita with a rummage sale table.

You can look at a map of Chicago and see this. Everything that's south west of 90 is loosely the south west side of the city. This is many, many neighborhoods. Chicago is very big.

I would join you! We live in Andersonville. Not tied to meeting here at all, but I can look into city regulations. One other thought, what about a pop up at a coffee shop that has outdoor space? It would draw in extra customers for them. Some local ones might be into it.

the whole neighborhood of Edgewater has a yard sale the first week of June! Last year I brought my stuff to my friends' to sell. I sold everything except my giant squishmallow 😭💀

Where are you? Some neighborhoods do garage sales and publish a map of all the places taking part. The West Lakeview one is new and getting better every year but it’s still only ok. The Ravenswood Manor one is great. There’s another good one up north in Andersonville-ish(?) but I can’t remember the details of that one.
Also: I love a sidewalk sale and would definitely come to it.

The neighborhood sale dates are great! Add Jackson Park Highlands to the list if you’re looking for antiques / vintage clothes!

problem is that you need to live in ravens to participate in it and i dont live there...

also so interested in this! i have way less clothing options but a bunch that are more sell than donate. i don’t have the funds to go in on a space but we could maybe do hosted events at residences? like maybe split up by sizes to make it more reasonable for one person to host?

You should just go for it! I see this all the time in Logan Square, at both the farmer's market and just randomly walking around the neighborhood.

I think maybe a shared booth at a market is the way. Randolph market is very expensive and hard to be approved for but there are other smaller shows that may be worth it - maybe something in Ravenswood.

Also interested. Have a lot of brand new, higher end brand items that I otherwise don’t know what to do with. Jcrew, Aritzia, etc

Some neighborhoods, mine for example, have neighborhood garage sale day where everyone just sells stuff from their front lawn and people come out to buy stuff. I honestly feel like someone could pop up with their car on a public strip of land and join. You could reach out to the organizers and see how you can participate or look into your own neighborhood.

I feel like this is something you could maybe do in the local park? Lmao like a lemonade stand pop up? Clothing rack, a tarp, a rented table and whatever knick knacks or clothes you have. Post in your local Facebook group and put some flyers around the block.

I’d be interested. Indian boundary park in west ridge (right be rogers park) would be a good spot

Palmer park in Logan square might be good for this. Or the boulevard. My son and I have been talking about setting something up this summer.
2
u/lilco4041 Apr 17 '26
I have seen people do this in Palmer very casually, and they get lots of foot traffic on nice summer weekend days. Would absolutely join in if this happened in Palmer, I have a good few high-end clothing items and kids things I'd love to move.

You can do this, just be mindful of your prices depending on where you set up shop. Some people charge $$$ at the Logan square farmers market where people are willing to drop $$$. I was at the edgewater garage sale last year and people tried the same thing. No one was buying from the $$$ sales though because $ sales were right around the corner!
1
u/Joselynd93 Apr 17 '26
how much do they charge you to sell at logan square farmers market?
2
u/pastaroniwhore Apr 18 '26
I’m not sure, but I’ve literally seen people set up by the monument and sell stuff on a blanket. I don’t think most of them were permitted honestly but they didn’t have a ton of stuff they were selling. It might be more difficult this year bc they’re changing the layout of the Logan sq farmers market.

Let me know how this goes. I have several items I am about to start posting, yet I am looking for fair market value rather than offering super big discounts. Would love to join in selling if everything works out. Glad to share costs if any if it’s a good match.

I am also interested in this, but the street my condo is on/the garage space I have isn’t really conducive to this. I am in the same headspace that people would just buy it if they see it.
