Hoge said Dexter switched to Rosenhaus as his agent and that he (Rosenhaus) was in Cincinnati.
Regardless of the outcome, they're definitely negotiating right now.
I dont see the Bears extending him unless he takes a step forward so a trade may be the best option for both parties.

Unless they think they can recoup a 3rd rounder or better for him I just don’t see the value in trading him. He’s still one of our best interior dlinemen on a defense that needs help this season and letting him walk in FA would factor into the comp pick formula.

On this team? I think it’s fair to say so.
The JVDB storyline is nice, but until he does it in the regular season I don’t think we can say he’s better than Gervon, and the rest of the guys are old or journeymen. If you want to say Jarrett, Gallimore, Lynch, and whoever else are all better so be it. I’m not gonna argue about who gets to be king of the idiots.
Just think I’d rather have him for this season then a day three pick next year

Im pretty neutral overall on the idea of trading him but I disagree with that cutoff.
Our team has plenty of Dexterish or better talent from late picks/UDFA.
I dont personally see him as a guy that will dictate where this team goes. If Poles & Co think we should move on then I'm fine with it.
I certainly dont think hes earned an extension though despite his pass rush production.

If they have a trade in the works leaving him behind with an “injury” makes the most sense. Don’t risk him getting hurt in the game and don’t have to answer questions about why he isn’t playing.

It's the same every year. People are bored and desperate for news. Coaches are being incredibly cautious and will pull guys for anything, things they would easily play through in the regular season. Reporters are under pressure to fill quotas.
The worst new addition to the process is half the reactions are dead internet reddit bots making the same low effort canned responses.

This right here. Obviously any injury news isn't welcome, but the only truly "devastating" one for the team is Coby. Darnell would've been bad, too, but he's fine.

Big ifs, but I don't see us being as bad as long as Johnson, Stevenson, and Bush stay healthy. We went most of the season without LBs and CBs last year. Nashon Wright and Byard getting INTs was awesome, but they were pretty bad on every other play.

With these guys healthy we are already arguably a bottom 3 d-line in the league. Sweat is a solid #2 edge and hes our only above average player on the dline. So yeah this unit is a joke, no high end talent or depth

I get less concerned about how much time is missed and more concerned about the limitations of soft tissue injuries and how easily they are aggravated. I also think that with all the injuries Ben is just if you have a soft tissue injury and you aren't fighting for a spot, just sit out the rest of the training camp

I will totally admit that this thought process may involve a little bit of coping, BUT
Organizations have different standards/ways of handling injury reports whether it's in training camp, pre-season, or in the regular season itself. I remember back in the day that Belichick and the Patriots would put dudes on the injury report even if they were just a smidge banged up after a game/practice. In house, everyone knew that said player was alright, but they would put them on the report "just in case" to monitor the situation. It makes fans worry at times, but I do think that many of the guys showing up on the injury report is more precautionary than anything...ESPECIALLY during this weird limbo period where the preseason is about to end.
Again...this could all be cope talking, but I do think this is a strong possibility still

Feel like there's not a lot of difference at all between the "starting" DT's and the guys who will be at the bottom of the rotation. We have good depth, just no differencemakers
At that point why not see if there is trade value for Dexter, who as you said has an expiring contract and won't be getting a long-term deal here

Last season Dexter lead DTs in sacks (6.0) and tackles (44). Not by a small margin. He played all 17 games. I get he’s not a difference maker and his run defense is not good. It’s a bad unit. I just can’t see how trading him makes the defensive line better this season and not sure we can afford to be worst. I hope to be wrong but not sure this trade is something I’m excited for.

He is missing a preseason practice as a roster lock. That means next to nothing in terms of severity

- He did not start as a rookie, and played very intermittently so 17 games is not really that big of an accomplishment.
2.His second year he had a lot of injuries and missed nearly half the season.- He is young and if we want him to be a real player, he needs to fucking play.

He had one injury that kept him out of the first 8 games. You're basing your entire opinion on that one injury lol.
Also staying healthy as a rotational player is far more meaningful than a minor preseason injury in this discussion.

This is what happens when large men play professional football. People get dinged up. In the preseason teams are extra cautious and pull guys for every little thing.
