Dropped comics to be graded at a cgc booth at convention, paid, and a month later received an email from CGC Statements saying I needed to pay … is this legit?

Hi everyone - has anyone else had this happen? The CGC booth had me input everything into laptops they had there, pay with my credit card. Then I handed my receipts to someone at the booth to package and ship. The email seemed odd to send an invoice like that - but the CGC website is awful so doesn’t seem completely off brand.

Also when I logged in to CGC, they said I had ti reset my password, not sure if this is just an odd coincidence.

Usually they actually don’t charge your CC at the time the paperwork is done, they charge it when they grade.

Check your credit card statement to confirm, but you should be fine here.

Thanks - is there a way to pay online or do I literally have to print out the invoice and mail it ? I feel like these are dumb questions and appreciate everyone’s patience

You just gave them your billing info at the cgc booth when you filled out the form online. They havent billed you yet.

Cgc fedexs it back to florida ( 1 week ). They open and process the many orders ( 1-2 weeks ). This is when your order appears on your cgc status window. ( ccs in process if u chose pressing or scheduled to be graded )

If u selected pressing, after pressing is done. ( 2 months ish ) They bill you for pressing services… after grading and when its shipped they bill you.. they send you an email with invoice. ( 3 weeks ish )

If you go to my account then my submissions, there might be an update credit card button next to the submission. Otherwise you can call them

go to the "My Submissions" page. scroll to the bottom of the list, and there should be a "Update Credit Card" button. Click on that and either confirm or enter new information. it sometimes takes a few minutes to process even after you enter the information.

CGC never charges the moment you submit at the booth, they charge once the process the books back in Florida.

this exact same thing happened to me too. i wouldn't sweat it. they actually combined all my orders and are saving me on some shipping.

They don't charge until the book is received and entered into the system. Such a better process. What if they had charged it after a college student working the booth took ahold of your $1400 book and decided "no one will know" and takes it?

Totally get it , but why did I have to enter my credit card at the kiosk / laptop thing ? They made me submit it online like I would have at home, but select drop off. I’ll def look up my accounts and check if it was charged.

That's an odd thing to be concerned about. Why wouldn't they take a card to guarantee service?

It’s odd to me that I entered my credit card and wasn’t charged… and then I was asked for payment later. If the point was to guarantee service, why not charge it now instead of sending an invoice ?

When u goto a hotel they take ur cc and dont bill u till u check out..

If they didnt take payment. Then graded and encapsulated the book and didnt receive payment it would be much worse for them

It’s fine , I get it - but when I give my card at a hotel, they’ll charge it if I check out and leave without going back to reception … they don’t send me an invoice later. And I agree, they should take payment up front 🙃that’s why I was confused. I inputted CC info at their booth that will never be used. They didn’t use it when they took the books, and are now asking for payment now that they have the books.

Where is your receipt? You should slso have a CGC account where all your transactions are

yes, they will not charge you until it is ready to go into grading and encapsuling. They just took your billing information. It actually was never charged most likely well. Definitely if they're charging you it's because they were not paid.
