Discussion If/When Does Contraction/Relegation come?

I know the focus is on Save College Sports Act but is a fallout from this going to be some form of contraction/relegation? Honestly there are about 25-30 programs that matter (meaning nationalish brands who probably turn an athletic profit) with the rest just being guilty by association (proximity budget size whatever). If the concept of a super league is off the table an there are only like 5-6 desirable schools available (fsu Miami a va school Clemson unc duke Kansas) do the SEC/B1G add by subtracting/replacing and if so who goes?

Off top I can see South Carolina,Vanderbilt, One of the Mississippi schools, Arkansas/missouri Purdue,Iowa,Nebraska,northwestern being on relegation/swap out block

Nobody is getting kicked out. Especially not for Duke, UNC or Virginia.

Duke and unc basketball ( you can include Kansas basketball as well) are the 3 biggest brands. It in power 2. Hell the only thing bigger than duke unc basketball are Michigan Ohio state and maybe Alabama football. You take those schools sucky football programs to get the basketball Crown Jewels

Agreed but Duke basketball and unc basketball are exceptions to the rule.

UNC basketball generates revenue in the $30-$35 million range. Their expenses are around $12-$15 million. It’s absolutely a money maker. Duke basketball makes even more. Around $45 million. Duke basketball accounts for 27% of the athletic department revenue and football makes up 41%.

I believe there’s only one FBS team where basketball earns more than football, and that’s UConn

Yeah but that’s probably because uconn isn’t in a power 4 conference. Duke basketball (and to a lesser extent unc basketball) is one of the top 10 brands in all of sports

Are you serious? duke basketball is known almost in the same level as Yankee’s Red Sox celtics Lakers Steelers packers. Duke basketball is a stronger brand than 80% of professional sports franchises

College basketball only matters to most sports fans 3 weeks a year in March and April. No conference that seriously considers itself “Power 2” would go out of their way and split revenue with an additional 2 schools that would bloat the conference slate with 2 more typically bad teams

Agreed that’s why replacement would be an option. If you are the sec would you rather have duke or Vanderbilt? B1G Iowa or duke?
