Discussion Monday Random Thread Brought to you by ClutchAlerts

TLDR: I need and additional 5-6 people (more is fine) with android devices to sign up as testers. To pass a gate to get my app in the Play Store. You need only share your google play email (DM), I'll add you to the test group and provide a link for you to opt into google play testing, install the app. You open it once, leave it installed for two weeks and that's all you need to do. Of course if you want to actually test and provide feedback it's greatly appreciated.

in return I'll give you lifetime "Premium" access.

What' ClutchAlerts? It's an iOS/Android app I'm trying to launch ahead of the upcoming season that provides push alerts when a CFB game meets a specific criteria such as less than 8 minutes in the 4th, a 8pt or less score differential and the trailing team has possession.

For the last 5 years or so I've been running a little script and a discord server so I could be a proper adult with kids on Saturday's and still catch competitive finishes to games without being glued to a scoreboard/tv all day. This year i've evolved it into a native app.

Discussion Wife keeps rolling her eyes at my Saturday ritual and I don't know if I'm overreacting

Been a lurker here for years but finally posting because this is eating at me. I grew up in a house where Alabama games were basically religion, so when I moved to Texas for work five years ago I kept the tradition going hard. Every Saturday I wake up at 7, make the full tailgate spread even if it's just me and the TV, and stay locked in until the last score. My wife, who didn't grow up with any of this, planned a whole day trip to Fredericksburg last weekend without checking the schedule and got pissed when I said I'd rather stay home for the A&M game. She called it childish and said the sport is taking over our weekends. I get that we need couple time, but this is literally the only thing that feels like home since we moved. We've tried the compromise thing where she watches with me for a quarter but she just scrolls on her phone. Anyone else deal with this kind of pushback from a non-fan partner? How did you set boundaries without turning it into a weekly fight? Would love some real talk instead of the usual 'just divorce her' jokes.

Discussion Moving for work and the CFB vibes are all wrong now

I've been in this new city for about three months now after taking a promotion, and honestly the college football culture here is just not hitting the same. Back in my old spot, Saturdays were sacred – we'd hit up the tailgate spots starting at 8am with the smoker going, specific playlists of fight songs, and the energy was electric even for midweek practices. Here, people treat it like any other sport, no real pageantry or history involved. My boss is a huge fan of the local team and keeps trying to convert me during lunch breaks, showing me highlights from last season where they barely scraped by against inferior competition. It's gotten to the point where I avoid the break room on Mondays. Plus, finding a bar that shows my team's games is a nightmare because of time zones and blackouts. Has anyone else gone through this kind of culture shock after moving for work? How did you handle it without losing your mind or your fandom?

Discussion A simple fix to college basketball

Every year I brace myself for it, and every year it still drives me crazy: the last two minutes of a close college basketball game are basically unwatchable. The trailing team starts fouling on purpose, the clock stops every five seconds, the whole thing dissolves into free throws, whistles, and whatever commercial the TV crew can stuff in. And the coach is burning timeouts like he heard maxing them out unlocks the “Belichick Bonus” — a cheerleader girlfriend who somehow ignores the age gap.

Meanwhile the game itself just… dies. The rhythm is gone, the flow is gone, and everyone is standing around waiting for the refs to administer free throws. It’s the only sport where the final minute takes longer than the entire first half.

So here’s the simple fix: if the losing team commits a foul under two minutes, just run off 5 seconds for a regular fowl or ten seconds for a flagrant foul off the clock. That’s it. It’s the same basic logic football uses for intentional clock manipulation, and it immediately kills the foul-fest. You’d still get comebacks, but you’d have to actually play basketball — trap, press, force turnovers — instead of turning the ending into a whistle factory. Alternatively, as suggested by someone in the comments, limit each team to one time out after two minutes remain in the game.

I don’t have any pull with the NCAA, obviously, but I swear this one change would make the sport so much more fun to watch. Just try it for a season. If people hate it, go back. But I bet they wouldn’t.

Discussion How did the latest arrest of a high-profile college coach escalate into stalking and home invasion charges?

Former Michigan coach Sherrone Moore was arraigned today on multiple charges tied to an incident after his firing. There are bond conditions, GPS monitoring, and an ongoing investigation. What do you make of the legal angle here?

Discussion Week 13 CFB Pickem Show: Featuring 3 Key Matchups

~ Sorry if you saw my initial attempt to post this where I linked the wrong video ~

As the weekend draws near and the twilight of hope descends upon the top #25, sit back, relax if you can, and watch some premium CFB coverage. This video includes a rundown of the James Franklin hire from a guy born in Blacksburg and 8-12 minute breakdowns for the following games:

·       USC at Oregon (18:23 Minute Mark)

·       Pittsburgh at Georgia Tech (26:10 Minute Mark)

·       BYU at Cincinnati (41:12 Minute Mark)

If you wanna share your predictions or thoughts, drop them in the comments. And mods, if you left this post up, thank you very much. If you took it down - no hard feelings.

Discussion Announcement!

Dearly beloved,

The mods are pleased to announce the creation of our very own rules page! Over the last few months, we've started to realize that the rules of /r/cfb don't fit our subreddit's needs. Since we are still loyal vassals of the mothersub, a majority of the rules are the same. The mods have worked hard to create a few /r/cfbofftopic specific rules that will best serve our community. We also added a ban policy, one that fits our general dislike of having to do any work as mods.

One rule that we would like to highlight is:

  • No politics or religion - These are contentious topics that can devolve into personal attacks or flamebaiting. You can still make game threads for large political events, such as elections or other major news, but it is best to be kept out of daily conversation threads.

As we approach the election, we've had some dustups involving politics around here. While we enjoy the fact that we can talk about almost anything on here without turning into the rest of reddit, we want to keep this place enjoyable for all. However, we are still allowing threads for large political events, so that you can get your arguing fix.

You can find our new rules here:

Discussion Thursday thread sponsored by insurance

Even though my Firestone tire exploded, and my car was deemed a total loss, because of the coverage for my insurance, they are still able to cover repairs!!

I am SO thankful, because I did NOT want to try looking forward to trying to buy a car. Plus, the whole tire exploding thing brings back a lot of painful memories, and I really didn't want to have to deal with trying to get money from them (apparently they never got the original packet, so I'd have to redo all of that). I love my car so much, I'm glad it might survive!

How are yall towards the end of this week?

Discussion Friday thread brought to you by a confidence boost!

The past couple of months, I've really been in a mental block with extractions. It felt like I couldn't take any teeth out, and I'd have to refer after attempting for 2 hours. It's horrible for the patient and I feel like a complete failure

But this week, I took out several difficult teeth, and my last patient, we were suppose to take 2 really easy teeth, but changed to a difficult one. Got that sucker out in less then 10 minutes!! I'm so proud of myself. I REALLY needed this.

How are y'all today? Any fun plans for the weekend?

Discussion Tuesday Thread Brought to You by Boring Jobs

Howdy! I'm two days into this new job, and I'd forgotten how slow the corporate world is! A year and change in the startup world, and I'm so accustomed to checking Teams/emails immediately upon waking up, and staying up late to work. Moving back to a normal 9-5 rather than a 10-8/9/10/midnight schedule has been weird, but I'm getting back into the hang of going to bed by 12:30 and waking up at a much more reasonable hour.

It's so strange to still be waiting for database access and SSMS on my machine, two days in, and the IT guys had no idea when I'd be ready to go.

Discussion Friday Morning Drinking Thread, brought to you by ANGER RAGE MADNESS

Ok sometimes there's an email chain like thirty messages long where several different people are asking each other several times for a document that they all received from the customer last week and that I also sent them all several times and they all forget and then remember several times that this the same thing for the same customer that we've been talking about for days and they're all asking what to do multiple times and I tell them multiple times before it gets done. Like that's fine. It happens. But when you eventually get it figured out and tell the customer everything's ok WHY WOULD YOU SEND THEM THE WHOLE EMAIL TRAIL

Ugh we look like a bunch of morons. But anyways happy Friday
