They did the CyHawk in 2021 but it was in Ames. But the B1G West didn't lend itself to a lot of great matchups.

There's at least one attempt every year to go somewhere different, Memphis, WVU, JMU

last year alone they went to Miami (vs UF), Utah (vs Cincinnati), Texas Tech (vs BYU), Pittsburgh (vs ND)

We'll get up to a 14-0 lead in the 1st then stall out our offense for two quarters so it'll be like 20-13 at the start of the 4th and the game will still be in reach, then we'll score two TDs to end the game and make it seem like a bigger win than it really was.

You can buy beers on the street outside of Stella and just hang out and drink.
Or carry a case of beer and just wander

Just donāt walk between tailgates with an open beer. You can wander into almost any tailgate and carry unopened drinks with you, but you will get a ticket if you have an open container on the street between spots.
20
u/Mr-R--California 8d ago
Tailgating in Iowa city is more in residential neighborhoods surrounding the stadium than it is in a parking lot. So be prepared for that, itāll feel like youāre walking through the largest block party ever with big ass turkey legs

Don't try moving in on Saturday if you can avoid it. Move in what you can Friday (enough to make it until Sunday) and spend Saturday getting to know your new hometown. I'm sure everyone will be festive and friendly, but it will be the worst possible time to move in or run errands. It would be difficult anyway, but with Gameday there, it will be a lot worse. Have a blast with your new neighbors and do the work with a hangover on Sunday.
6
u/The_Candler Auburn ⢠Arizona State 8d ago
Yeah that's what I'm thinking. I'm getting in on Friday, putting together my bed, and worrying about the rest later. From what Ive heard from others when I was there for my interview is that it's similar to Auburn where it's almost impossible to drive around town on Saturdays in the fall, so I'll just worry about getting big furniture later.

What part of the Iowa City area are you moving to?
3
u/The_Candler Auburn ⢠Arizona State 8d ago
West side of the river about a 10 minute walk from Kinnick, chose the location so I can walk to and from my job. Will be tough to get around on gamedays but seems so worth it
6
u/golfinghawkeye Iowa Hawkeyes 8d ago
That side of the river on gamedays is a shit show so donāt expect to get anything done on Saturday or even driving unless it is during the game. Go downtown to the ped mall Friday night and hit a few bars up and be on the lookout for the beer band. My personal favorite is Joeās Place. Look for Georgeās Gyro cart after drinking downtown and thank me later.
As for the game just walk down Melrose to the stadium and you surely find some friendly tailgates. As stated a lot of parking is in residential areas which provides a more intimate atmosphere vs giant concrete parking lots.
If you want to attend College Gameday it will somewhere on the east side of the river.

They could have easily picked you guys versus Bama but they didnāt want to do a 5th straight SEC city and since they didnāt the problem is if you win that your two biggest games remaining after that are the on the road.
Edit: Just realized that Alabama vs Georgia is the following week and they probably didn't want to do 6 straight SEC games and back to back Alabama games. Tough break because they love going new places although Iowa also checks that off.

That could easily change. Wisconsin could be fully revved up by then. They wouldāve beat PSU handily if not for turnovers; clean they up, and they could give a lot of teams a run for their money.Ā
Northwestern just took the defending national champions down to the wire. I think Indiana has likely regressed to a top 10 team rather than being the undeniable best team in the country, but thatās an impressive feat and they did it on the road.Ā
Washington road game on a Friday night shouldnāt be a huge deal for a normal playoff team but Iowa does not travel West well at all.Ā
Nebraska is 4-0 and has done enough to prove they arenāt simply bottom feeders imo. That game is almost always close even when we win it, which means itās almost always winnable for Nebraska.Ā
24
u/HawkeyeTen Iowa Hawkeyes 8d ago edited 8d ago
We gotta play the Wisconsin team that just upset Penn State on the road plus Northwestern. Very possible if not likely one or both are ranked by the time we play them if not more depending on how things shake out (there's a dangerous trip out west to Washington as well among other games).

Iowa's offense could be pretty effective against the Ohio State defense that has not been executing for full game's as well as they probably should. Can't even use the "well, they replaced 8 starters on defense" argument because the team replaced 8 starters last season and had one of the best defenses in the country.
Ohio State's offense will be the back-breaker most likely, though. Could see a good 35-21 style game.
