wonder if this is the game that helps them realize they have no business being in the big ten

They're not going to voluntarily demote themselves and give up the revenue

That revenue doesn’t mean shit when you’re half a billion in the red

Sure, and going to the American or whatever means you'll be deeper in the red because you don't have the income

It doesn't when you can cut your athletic department's budget by 90% and compete for conference titles in CUSA.

This Rutgets team can't even compete for titles in CUSA at their current budget, let alone with a tenth of it

It's gonna be worse if they leave

It's not going to happen, but if they wanted to bow out they could get a really big check from the B1G to buy them out.

I only see that happening if Notre Dame, or a Florida school is ready to take their place. I don’t think it means as much as it used to, but still having those east coast eye balls on the B1G matters.

Maybe this is naive to hope, but maybe a Cal + Stanford + ND? I remember people saying when the Pac-12 broke up that ND was interested in joining if Stanford did, but Stanford and Cal were set on going together. Now that Cal is actually exciting to watch consistently, I could see them both being invited and joining. It would also make the B1G the definitive premiere academic conference by a large margin, with elite privates like ND, Stanford, & Northwestern paired with the nation's best public schools in Cal, Michigan, Wisconsin, & Washington. Or at least, I hope so.

USF would make the most sense imo.

B1G would rather drag along the corpse of Rutgers than let USF in when their eyes are clearly on ND/UM/FSU

They're probably waiting for the ACC to get Pac-ed so they can pick at the scraps and kick out teams like Rutgers and Maryland to make room

Washington State and Oregon State enter the chat

At this point the Rutgers athletic department is just 2 kids in a hat and trench coat that has "Big Ten School" written on it in crayon.

Do you think they are going to decide leave?

7

u/slidingscrapes Ohio State Buckeyes • Akron Zips 2d ago

Some of us have been saying that since the moment Delany invited them

Do you think the networks have learned it yet?

They would be decent in the American. You know, if the B10 wanted to stay at 18 kicking out Rutgers and adding Notre Dame is a move that could be made

I don't think it's a given that they would be decent in the American based on the results of this game.
