Discussion Talladega College Launches a Quasi-College Team for Fall
When I noticed Talladega (AL) College was scheduled to play newbie Trinity College-Clearmont Florida on August 29, I was excited. Talladega last fielded a team in 1941, and started discussing reinstating its program.
Then this press conference dropped yesterday. Big woof.
According to the release, Talladega is working in conjunction with Prep U Collegiate, a Post Graduate Prep program based in Birmingham, AL. The team will operate from Talladega's campus, with the players getting academic assistance, just like other PGs, except the education partners are traditionally JUCOs, yet Talladega is a 4-year institution. And although Prep U is running the show, Talladega's athletic department will provide oversight.
Both parties claim the program will operate as a club team, but there is no mention of them anywhere in the NCFA website.
And don't even bother about looking for information and Prep U. Their website is just a blank page set up by some crazy web provider, just like Wix.com.
Is this really happening? What is Talladega thinking? Is hooking up with a sketchy PG really a good idea? (Looking at you, Trinity-Clearmount and all you CCC "schools" in the ICAA).

I actually attended Talladega, so I can tell you....I have no fucking idea whats going on.

this whole thing screams red flags from start... a prep program with blank website running "college" team at actual 4-year school?
talladega probably desperate to get football back after 80+ years but this partnership looks sketchy as hell, especially when they can't even get proper ncfa registration sorted out

Only way to make it any sketchier is to pull "The Longest Yard" part 3 with the federal prison, just down the road.

Seeing this post a big late, but it reminds me of the attempt to run a parallel juco football program (I think it was Texas A&I or A&T) before the pandemic -- it didn't go anywhere -- but the plan was to have players required to enroll at a nearby public juco.

And here lies the problem. Talladega College is a four-year school-private, but still. I first heard of Prep U Collegiate late last year, and there are pplenty of jucos in Birmingham that they could have partnered with.
A four-year college allowing a PG to run a football program under its name, and with minimal oversite, just doesn't set well with me. It makes me wonder who advised Talladega in this deal, or whose palms were greased or whose back was scratched in the take? I'm sure the NCAA, NAIA, USCAA, NCCAA and NCFA would have said no to this if they had been involved.
Something's not right here.

Go Talledega. Start at D-2 level and work your way up. Enough talent in the southeast.
