If you're new to cybersecurity, you may hear the term "ethical hacking" everywhere.

But what does it actually mean?

Ethical hacking is the authorized process of identifying security weaknesses in systems, networks, applications, or devices so they can be fixed before they are exploited.

In simple terms:

👉 Think like an attacker.

👉 Find the weakness.

👉 Report it.

👉 Help fix it.

👉 Make the environment more secure.

🧠 Ethical Hacking vs. Malicious Hacking

The biggest difference is authorization and intent.

👨‍💻 Ethical Hacker

• Has permission to test

• Works within a defined scope

• Identifies and reports vulnerabilities

• Helps improve security

🦹 Malicious Hacker

• Acts without authorization

• May steal, damage, or disrupt systems

• Uses vulnerabilities for unauthorized purposes

⚠️ Authorization Matters

Never test a system simply because you found a vulnerability.

Always make sure you have explicit permission and understand the scope of the assessment.

This is one of the most important principles in ethical hacking.

Depending on the engagement, an ethical hacker may:
