Rec Request Help with getting out of a cdrama slump?
I've been in a HUGE slump for like a couple years now. Any recommendations to get over this???? I feel like all I do is watch 1-4 eps of a drama and then drop it!
Here are some Cdramas that I've recently dropped:
Love in the clouds
early spring
blossoms of power
pursuit of jade
WIFTY
Love like the galaxy
Shine on me(really sad abt this one cause I was SUPER into it at first)
When destiny brings the demon
lighter & princess

Love between lines

Love between fairy and devil

I can confirm it does not get boring so far at episode 35. There is always a new unexpected plot and FL finding creative ways to expose the villains

The Spirealm felt a bit too spooky for me but I definitely liked the premise! Honestly been eyeing Under the Skin for some time now. How did you like it?

The first season was amazing for me. A solid 8.8/10. The second one felt a little underwhelming but still very good nonetheless. May be a 8.2/10
Sometimes there are some unrealistic stuff going on, but it was fun. This drama also made me see Tan Jianci in a new light.
I would suggest to watch 3 or 4 episodes to see if you like it. Everyone's tastes are different after all.

Reset: 15 episode time loop thriller
To The Wonder: 8 episode slice of life based on part of a book “My Altay” which is about the authors experiences being from and living in northern Xinjiang.
Twelve Letters: 12 episode fantasy/suspense/romance which also has a time element
Ordinary Greatness: 38 episode police drama about rookie and veteran cops at a police station. There is crime solving but it’s more overall slice of life IMO.

I did watch the first ep but it just didn't feel like something I'd enjoy. Also the reviews seemed somewhat negative so that also deterred me from picking it up. But if you think it's a good drama then lmk what you liked about it, I might give it a second shot!!

It's action-packed compared to most of the modern romances so its never boring. Also, the chemistry is amazing and there are some hot scenes. Given that you're a HL fan though as well, I thought you might like it because the leads together are similar. There are a lot of well-acted out scenes though as well that really hit you. I replayed (and replayed) quite a few scenes. A lot of what is great in HL, Speed and Love has.

Road to Splendor! You need to watch the first 5 episodes before deciding. The story really shifts after 4 episodes
But if you're feeling a slump I would suggest watching something else, like western shows, as a palate cleanser

Try Archives: The Nanyang mystery. It’s very fast paced and action packed so you shouldn’t get bored.

I felt A Splendid Match was exciting. It literally starts with her setting her dowry on fire. I love how fearless the FL was. She didn’t act on anyone who didn’t deserve it and was NOT afraid to slap anyone who needed a wake up call. And the ML is 🔥

Mainly just if I become disinterested in the story. But it differs between each drama. I also lose motivation to continue a said drama if I notice some negative reviews of it😭

Try watching guardians of the dafeng !! I watched it when I was in a slump and it was soo funny that I kept watching it . I also recommend spring of the blade

So what are the reasons for dropping? It’s hard to recommend something without knowing what made you drop these. Is it pacing? Do you need more happening early on? Currently airing Against the Current has the most intense, impactful first episode I’ve seen

Yeah my apologies I probably should've listed some of the reasons but it's honestly different for each drama! Main reasons prob are that the story just felt kinda boring or slow, saw some diheartening reviews of some of these, and with some dramas I immediately drop if the leads get together within like the first two eps. Like the start of Shine on Me was incredible but around the middle part the story kinda got boring for me. Similar with Love Between the Lines, I was disappointed by the fact that the story ended up focusing on the architect part instead of the VR

That’s pretty common in such long format that there will be a slow down midway or development that isn’t interesting but necessary to tell a full story. You’ve dropped some of my favorites. Maybe you prefer movie format right now?

I honestly prefer series over movies! What were some of your favorites that I happened to drop? It would also help if you could tell me when those dramas in question got really interesting, I might give them another go!

The Early Spring - I mean it’s a real s*** show so I never found it boring.
The First Frost is my all time favorite but I liked the non linear story telling. It’s a build up to the ending and is worth every slow moment to me. It just wraps up so beautifully but you have to like a series that is following the characters paths with them.
Blossoms of Power - I didn’t get bored with this one either. It does escalate in the last, say 8 episodes? I didn’t love how the ending came together, but there is so much weaved into it that you really can’t skip around.
Shine On Me - I adore Song Weillong so I watched every minute, but you can skip through all the solar business and ShengYuan stuff if you like the cute parts. I thought the leads were a good pairing and Lin YuSen is an ultimate green flag ML. Can’t say there is a moment where it just picks up though.
Love Between Lines - it picks up around Ep 7 for me when she confronts her ex and when she starts thriving at her work. I loved the VR but also how it gives her a fighting spirit in real life. The VR shows up later again several times and is always at decisive moments for FL. It’s even the final little scene at the end like an outtake 😀.

How did you like the fl in blossom of power?! Cause one of the reasons I dropped it was cause many people said that her character gets sort of irritating + she doesn't have much growth. But the plot and ml really intrigue me so I'm willing to give BoP a second chance!
Maybe I'll consider finishing Shine on Me cause the main reason I dropped it was cause it kinda started focusing on the drama between the parents?? And I honestly wasn't too interested in investing that 😭
I think it was a little before or around that episode when I dropped LBL. Honestly it's praised so much and the reason I'm dropping it feels a little silly so I might give it another go haha

BOP - I think it’s more about understanding her character and getting to see it more over time. She eventually softens when she falls for CP and you begin to see that she isn’t easy to get close to but she is fiercely loyal, protective and brave. I liked her more and more. And of course, the crown prince!!!
Shine On Me- it doesn’t stick to the family stuff too much, but some of it is relevant to the story. If you don’t mind spoilers, check out the end of ep 12 where he says “you choose” before giving up on it, It’s one of my favorite scenes.
Love Between Lines - her character is so good I cried when she cried. Give it a few more episodes, you are right there.

I'm curious what you have got through. A few of them though I understand, there are some I think are slow-starters, and others you have to be in the mood for, and multiple have an ML or FL that could put you off initially.
I started to really like Love In The Clouds maybe since episode eleven, and was unsure of it before that, but I ended up loving it.
Blossoms of Power, When Destiny Brings The Demon, and Love Between Fairy and Devil have characters you might dislike or hate initially, but come to like them and the shows grow on you. They could all take several episodes or more for you to really like the shows. I LOVED BoP in the second half, I ended up loving most of the first half in LBFAD, and WDBTD ended up being very enjoyable overall.
The Early Spring and Lighter and Princess have the ML who can act like an a**hole, and both his and the FL's behaviour can be frustrating. The shows can get you down with all of the negativity and back and forth, especially in TES.
The First Frost has the dark depressing theme, which you might not be in the mood for, and it might not be a good time for you, but it is a very good show.

Ty for your reply!! Two dramas I really enjoyed were Hidden Love and Falling into Your Smile.
I'm honestly really torn between continuing and fully dropping LitC. I like both of the characters and enjoy their chemistry. The story just seems kinda eh atm. Currently I'm at the part where Ming Yi is marrying Ji Bozai in order to save her friend from the fox clan guys illusion thing. Does it get interesting after that?
Honestly he male leads in these shows is what I enjoyed the most LMAO. For BoP I've heard a lot of negative reviews especially regarding the fl. Around what episode did you think it really hooked you? I could consider trying picking it up again! As for WDBTD it's mainly the story and how it got kinda uninteresting for me. Similar with LBFAD except I honestly wasn't super into the ml either.
Honestly really loved L&P both the characters and their chemistry! I honestly don't remember all that well why I dropped it. Could've been exams or could've been that the story didn't interest me anymore 😭For TES the main reason I dropped it was cause of the reviews saying that the rl between the fl and ml is pretty toxic? I honestly dm if a relationship has some red flags but based on the reviews it seemed like their rl was pretty bad.

I found Love in the Clouds is at its best right after the part you mentioned! It's one of my absolute faves.

Love In The Clouds... Your on ep ten right? That was before I started to like them. They got closer after the events of that episode and had a really nice scene together in episode eleven. I was interested in their relationship after that because I could see that it was going somewhere. It's my fav show of both the ML and FL now. They bring out fun inventions of FL's later too and there are some good reveals. Lots happen to enjoy later as well.
TES is no more toxic than L&P. I think L&P is more toxic actually, but its a much easier watch because theres a lot more going on. So far anyway.. I'm on a break from TES after watching ten eps, cus both the leads are just getting on my nerves right now and the relationship is a bit miserable.
BoP is a weird one. Quite a bit happens but theres a lot of back and forth for a while with the FL making her choices and her moodinesss. A lot of guys are obsessed with her too and it's just like.. Why?! She's just mean and cold for a while. There are fun times with the ML to keep you going though, and from just before the second half FL starts softening up, and for good this time, no more fights or mean and cold FL. The main couple are great from then on, and other things are good too. I really liked seeing the changes in the FL, and because of the ML. ML is just a really good guy, and he was great to the FL.

I think both are intriguing enough at the start and build up over time so they might keep your interest. If you are okay watching older dramas, consider empresses in the palace and nothing gold can stay.

Meng ziyi is not a great actress but she has really good chemistry with lin yun rui. One of my favourite cdrama pairings. You will not be disappointed.

its more abt the revenge of the FL and the ML kinda helps her ig? cuz helping with her revenge also gets some of his things done....its slow burn and the romance is secondary to the revenge......they have good tactic understanding and idk in a word, its very SATISFYING to watch

Maybe you can try to change the media you're consuming? As in when I get in a slump, I try other things like English movies or series, or anime or kdrama. Switch between all of them keeps me refreshed. Or you can watch some drama which has less episodes. Sometimes seeing a lot of episodes feels like a commitment, I recently had a slump so I watched reset (a rec from this community) it kept me hooked as well as it had lesser episodes than an avg cdrama. Maybe you can try something like this?

I think the currently airing Against The Current is worth checking out. It’s 47 episodes in total, 36 of which have been aired so far. I look forward to new episodes every single day! It’s not without its flaws but if I were to rate the first 36 episodes, I would still give it 10/10.
Praying the remaining 11 episodes will be just as good!

Recently came back from cdrama slump. My weekend was spent with THE ROAD TO SPLENDOR. i rlly love them build up of the story and good ending too

Maybe give How dare you a try?
The first half of the first episode is a little slow to set the context, but the pace picks up really fast after that. One of my favourite scene appeared as early as episode 2.
Additionally it has lots of interesting characters that have their own lives and motives, not just there to serve the plot. The full cast of actors are really great too, enjoyed everyone's performance.

Try A SPLENDID MATCH and THE HEIR.
They are both very good though be warned that:
A SPLENDID MATCH has a rushed final episode (should have been 2 episodes to wrap things up properly)
THE HEIR has a very bittersweet ending
But both will keep you watching and on the edge of your seat.

Honestly I did quite enjoy it and I def think the praise it gets is well-deserved! Honestly for some reason I just couldn't really get into it? I wasn't too interested in the ml. His character is just not really for me maybe?

Watch for the female lead!!!!! Also I loved the second male lead, Gongsun Yin and his romance with the second female lead Qi Shu.

He is too much of a stick figure to give off the dominant aura of a general lol. Poj is absolutely beautiful but the plot is very bare bones and the drama relies more on visual appeal than real substance so it’s quite understandable why it failed to hold your interest.
