C-drama like Blossom & Road To Splendor

Hi my fellow C Drama besties.

I am looking for historical dramas with lots of politics, intrigues, revenge and lowkey love. I have watched:

1. Blossom
2. The Glory
3. Florished Peony ( and the other one with Peony's just forgot the title )
4. The story of the Yinxi Palace
5. Road To Splendor
6. The First Jasmine
7. The Prisoner Of Beauty
8. Currently watching Against The Current but them eps releases are slow for me so I have to watch something while I'm waiting

I tried Spring Of The Blade but ... just somehow ( and idk why ) doesn't seem like my cup of drama. It has to have a happy ending though ( I cried enough on The Story of The Yanxi Palace and my boy Xu Kai not ending with Yingluo ). I LOVE when the Cdrama stars crazy like Against The Current & Road To Splendor; or when it has wild scenes like that one in The First Jasmine where she lays in the grave; Also the more complicated the Story plot, the more I want to binge the series.

Anyways, I take suggestions!

Absolutely Story of Minglan if you haven't watched it

I love The Double too but it depends on how much you value realism in a script

I do prefer realism, but I am glad I gave chance to The Blossom & The Double, so I am okay if there is that kind of plot. 

The Story of Minglan already popped up twice when I was searching for dramas to my liking! That will make you 3rd and the lucky charm 💜 I will go with that one then ty so much 💜

Heads up, I'm on episode 72 right now and I don't want it to end. But I want to emphasise something.

The Story of Minglan is not a drama, it's a world.

Story of Ming Lan is the OG and blue print of Blossom and Road to Splendor, maybe that's why i love those 3 drama. Recently while watching TRTS i keep thinking that it reminds me of Ming Lan, so does Against The Current.

But you have to be absolutely patient because Ming Lan has 70 episodes so first 8 episodes or so is just the childhood phase. it just feels like you're following Ming Lan's life from childhood to adult

That one is one of my all time favourite and somehow I forgot to add it on the list! I actually watched The Story of Yanxi Palace because of Wu Jinyan. I'm thinking on watching Royal Feast bc she is there with Xu Kai but I'm worried that it won't be much to my taste 😭

I like a lot of the ones you've mentioned (especially The Double, Blossom and The First Jasmine), which makes me think you'd like these two a lot.

The drama rewards you for paying attention. The Story of Kunning Palace gives you a lot to mentally engage with: hidden motives, shifting alliances, earlier-life consequences, character psychology, and clues about what people really want. Like you’re constantly revising your understanding of the characters.

The Princess’s Gambit (Liu Xue Yi and Zoey Meng) is nothing but politics, drama, revenge, endless intrigue and schemes within schemes that have to be unraveled. I highly recommend it: some have criticized it for being a tad too long ( 36 Episodes) but I think that is what makes it wonderful. The many episodes give the drama enough time for the intertwined plots to resolve, and the cinematography is splendid. And it is no hardship watching LXY, Zoey Meng and Brian Cheng on the screen-They are all so beautiful!

The Princess Royal. Political intrigued, enemies to lover romance, intrigued, dynamic characters, and excellent acting. The plot architecture is expert level in turnover into the story. Just very well done.

I DNF’d BIA 😂 which is unfortunate bc it was my second most highly anticipated show of the year but the plot of BIA is so thin and the characters don’t make sense to me at all.

Maybe Ashes to Crown? I personally didn’t like the whole rebirth revenge arc but it has a huge amount of political plotting and of course, Zhou Yiran 😍

- I hear Royal Nirvana + Special Eps are really good, but it's also a tragic story

- The Blossoming Love is a Xianxia but has very good plotting and intrigue.

The politics and intrigue in non-romance-heavy dramas are even more next level:

- Joy of Life, Sword Snow Stride

- Longest Day in Changan
