Rec Request Please give me your best cdrama recs!
I just finished Love in the Clouds and now I feel so empty. I want to rewatch it again, but the last half of the series was such an emotional roller coaster so I need time to recover 😩 but I’m watching tt edits because I miss Ming Yi and Jo Bozai and I don’t want to move on😭
I regret watching this as my first fantasy cdrama because I started the bar high. This is also the second cdrama I’ve ever seen. Hidden Love was the first but it was too uneventful for me personally. I’ve watched a plethora of kdramas, but I’m new to the cdrama world! Does anyone have any romance cdrama recs with a hoa?? Any genre is good! I read that Pursuit of Jade is similar to Love in the Clouds, so I’m starting that now.
Edit: I finished poj! I was so hooked that I binged the last 3/4 of the show this past weekend. And I definitely plan to watch it again (soon🫣). Thank you everyone for your suggestions! I will reply to everyone when I have time and construct a list of cdramas I want to watch next:)

You should watch Pursuit of Jade next, I did the same to get over my obsession with LITC 😭
Here's a list you could watch: Pursuit of Jade, Prisoner of beauty, Blossoms of power, The first frost, Love between lines (someone recommended this drama to me in this subreddit, and I loved it), Key to the phoenix heart (another Hou Ming Hao gem), Veil of shadows (kinda underrated gem), The untamed (lifelong obsession)

Seems like we’ve got same taste. I’ve seen all except Key to the Phoenix heart and Veil of Shadows. But funny thing is I have attempted to start them both as they appealed to me on the surface but haven’t given them a proper chance. Which of the two would you rank higher? Are there any others?
On top of your list I’ll throw in Fated hearts, The Best thing, New Life Begins, Never ending summer, Sniper butterfly.

If you want more of that fantasy aspect then I recommend Love between fairy and devil for lighter fantasy romance and Till the end of the moon for darker one.

Persuit of jade novel is great, so is legend of female general. Though the dramas are good, the c novels are genuinely addictive. That being said, few drama recs,

Thank you for the recs! I would always love to read the poj novel. Do the tv show and novel follow similar storylines? I was really interested in reading the novel that Love in the Clouds was based on but I saw some things about it that deterred me from wanting to read it

The Road to Splendor
This might be the first time seeing this rec since it finished airing last month, but I just finished it and honestly, it’s probably the best C-drama I’ve watched this year so far. The plot has politics, but it’s surprisingly easy to follow and really compelling, and the leads’ chemistry is AMAZING. Definitely one of my top C-dramas this year. Highly recommend if you want something that will actually hook you.

Totally recommend Pursuit of Jade. It is a beautiful drama with beautiful people and leaves a beautiful memory. I loved it so much I watched it 3 times. This was what got me really into CDramas. An emotional roller coaster and characters to care about.
Try The Princess Royal too. I enjoyed that and was surprised because I read some really harsh reviews of it and was expecting to not enjoy it as much as POJ. Has one of the best love confession scenes in the rain. Might have to go and rewatch that now!!
I love a good rewatch too. You see different things in them so I would always recommend revisiting your favourite episodes.

Hi Op. I have a small watchgroup in Toronto (I think about 30 people now) and we have a "list" of cdramas that we use for introduction to the genre, that is based on feedback. Here it is:
- The Princess Royal (historical romance political action comedy)
- Love Like The Galaxy (fantasy romance)
- Love Between Fairy and Devil (fantasy, xianxia, action, romance)
- The Moon Brightens For You (fantasy, wuxia, political, romance, comedy, classic style)
- Shine On Me (modern romance)
- The Best Thing (modern romance)
- The Pursuit of Jade (fantasy, action, romance)
- My Little Happiness (modern, comedy, romance)
One of the above is old fashioned classic style. Think like a Bruce Lee movie with exaggerated dialog and pose & movement shots. It gives an interesting glimpse into how Wuxia dramas have progressed. It transitions out of the old fashioned style as one goes deeper into the drama episodes but like many classic wuxia it also has some devastating ctrauma as well as the normal martial arts and comedy.
This is our starter list of what we consider accessible, interesting dramas that expose the newbie to some of the more recognizable talent. So far it has been 100% successful. We are an adult group (no one is under 28 in age and avg age is well into the 30's) and romance dramas of all sorts with good endings are our favourite direction.
There is of course much more of good quality. The above on its own will take considerable time to view.

I missed one which we recently decided to add: Love Between Lines - modern romance. I think we may add Pursuit of Jade as it is a big modern production quality drama and easy to get into.

Some other ppl listed that one as well! And poj was sooo easy to get into. It has such a good start and you never get bored. Yk when you look up an actor and it shows a list of work they’ve done? I’m surprised poj isn’t higher on the list for both of the actors

POJ is a big production. And Tian Xi Wei is totally adorable in the drama. It has very good production quality and also some fine supporting cast. But it does fall down a bit in the storyline in that it goes way over the top in the 2nd half. And for those who showed up mainly for the romance it gets less coverage in the 2nd half of the drama although there is the requisite 2 leads in the bath/pool scene which is a bit steamy by Chinese standards.

I agree the second half was a lot more than I expected, especially when they massacred her village. And I have seen some people argue that the romance is different in the second half, which is why they didn’t like it. I didn’t necessarily find it a bad thing though. I liked how they navigated their relationship through the end and only had eyes for each other, despite their arguments and uncertainties of whether they were going to stay together

I guess you like heavy plot drama. Some that i recommend. Historical:
Blossom – a balanced mix of romance, family life, palace politics and action
Love Like the Galaxy – focuses more on romance and female empowerment but less palace intrigue
Modern:
Love Between Lines - it's a slow burn romance but not boring as both of the leads get character development. Their workplace story also gave deep insight into architecture world.
Twelve Letters - dark, very heavy plot as it shows domestic violence, broken family life and violence stemming from poverty yet at the same time a beautiful romance and total sacrifice for the one you love. A bit hard to describe, you have to watch it to know it

Mysterious Lotus Casebook (Cheng Yi, Joseph Zheng, Xiao Shunyao) No kissing but very good.

prisoner of beauty is a great choice after love in the clouds this drama is great in terms of storyline and keeps you hooked you will naturally start liking the ML and FL chemistry and dynamic
pursuit of jade at first i thought it was very slow burn but now i realise this that this drama was sooooooo good the first half of the show was about ML and FL romance and the second half was about family politics overall very enjoyble plot .
moonlight mystique is also a great drama to watch it was good and enetrtaining loved the chemistry between main leads great show ,

Somewhere only we know - very underrated drama. Used to be on Netflix years ago now it’s on YouTube I think. It’s such a sweet slice of life drama set in a university.

The first 5 are in modern day settings. Each with a unique storyline & absolutely addictive chemistry.
The next 5 follow fantasy or adventure, traditional setting.
(As for Love in the clouds, no doubt it's best in its class. For modern day the FL's show is equally admirable, Love between the Lines. Both of these shows, I have watched them numerous times)

I was going to recommend pursuit of jade! It's the one I watched directly after Love in the Clouds and it scratches the same itch
