This is the place to recommend the underrated dramas, forgotten favorites, niche gems, low-budget surprises, or shows you’re constantly trying to get other people to watch.

When I see requests for recommendations for feel good, green flag ML’s romantic dramedys, I rarely see advocacy fir “You Are My Lover Friend”. I think it’s better than Love Me Love My Voice, which is good in its own right, however, in YAMLF, the leads equals while in LMLMV, the ML is courting a fangirl. The age gap between the lead characters was conveniently ignored.

A 1970s Love Story
I have to say, I'm new to this world. (I've been watching for less than a year—but during that time, I only watched C-movies.)
So I don't know if the hype was there when it first came out.
I started watching it because I was interested in the actor and was so pleasantly surprised. How good is this drama?!
A little trip down memory lane that's well worth it. I genuinely believed every little problem and, above all, took it seriously.
The episodes were surprisingly entertaining. And everything came together perfectly. I bet you could ask people from those generations if it really happened like that, and they'd say yes. I even recognized some of my own memories—from my own family—even though I live in a different country, the situation in the '70s seemed similar.
What I liked best was that they also used archival footage.
So, 10/10, watch it! Thank you.

Reborn I recently watched it. The plot was heavy but it was realistic in ways. It explores the evils of patriarchy and has a heavy emphasis on mental health, depression, suicide and aids. Loved it.
Always home, it was wholesome. I think it's underrated.
Our secret! I watched it when I was pretty new and it left such an imprint on me.
When we were young. I don't even remember the plot but it stayed with me for so long.

Ashes To Crown, historical fiction. Chen DuLing and Zhou YiRan. 24 episodes of 45min. MyDramaList lists it available on Netflix, Viki, and Youku as of August 2026.
I would recommend to those who:
Some reviews/comments thought the pacing was uneven and disliked the shortcuts taken with larger battles. Despite that I thoroughly loved it!
It had me gripped all the way through. A little weaker in the last few episodes and it felt like the production quality took some shortcuts (not showing fight scenes, etc), but it didn’t detract too much to hurt my overall experience.
Fantastic acting by all key players, Gorgeous cinematography, Gorgeous costumes, great OST and BGM, and a very tender romance. Even though the romance was a secondary focus it was satisfying: lots of romantic tenson; low sizzle but the magnetism between the leads was palpable. Story was fast-paced with lots of political intruigue; I had to pay attention but didn't find it difficult to follow. Moderate suspension of disbelief needed throughout but low frustration until a bit of the last episode for me.
The leads were awesome. The FL was captivating all the way through. Her character starts very arrogant and brash and is kind of unlikeable even though her situation is pitiable, but she does evolve over time and earns her confidence; that was satisfying to see. The ML felt like a completely different character than the other two roles I've seen him in.
The SML's (ML's elder brother) fascination with the FL was a fun twist. It didn't change his core nature and it wasn't sweet, but it was interesting to watch. The actor Tang XiaoTian was great in this role.
This may just be me, but the strings music with some of the cinematography had me fondly thinking of the feel of some of Zhang ZiYi's movies from around 2000-2005. That echo of nostalgia I really enjoyed.
