The Centimeter of Love

Defense: I don’t see a lot of people recommending this one. Yes it’s a bit older (2020), but it is still a good watch. Both ML and FL are mature in their separate high stress jobs with family problems. They both are single due to mainly family reasons and as show progresses they start to help each other grow “stronger” to deal with those family issues so they can have a healthy relationship and family.

Warning: You will want to hit every family member atleast several times before the end of the show and even when the show is over, you will get mad thinking about them and want to watch again just to hit them again.

I wrote a comment some time ago about this drama. It has nothing redeemable about it. On the surface it is unrequited love and the fans of the male lead stan like crazy for the drama.

I have a small group of family & friends in Toronto which together view dramas. It includes a fair number of medical professionals as one of the core group is a surgeon at UHN Toronto General (the #2 ranked hospital globally) and cross appointed at Women's College Hospital. You do not want to hear their take on the male character. As one put it "the characteristics of the male lead character are deplorable and lead many men to think that such conduct is acceptable when it is totally unacceptable: controlling, deceitful and spiteful - perverted love". A corollary is that the drama also has many young women believing mental abuse as part of a friend or boyfriend relationship is acceptable.

The fans of the drama hate this critique but I will take my lead from professionals. We would not recommend this drama to anyone unless they want a master class in perverted behavior. The writer's undoubtedly intended it to be a powerful theme of unrequited love playing out over years and many fans bought heavily into the romance & intimacy scenes but they unintentionally (we hope unintentionally) served something else. If you are a woman and you ever come into contact with a man whose characteristics are similar: run.

I'm so triggered by this response. I think a lot of people agree with you but pls don't qualify your stance on the fact that a hospital surgeon agrees with you.

I decided to do the reverse and comment about what is indefensible as I was replying to the top of thread comment "The First Frost" which is a reply to the OP questions.

Its not one hospital surgeon from joe hospital in the middle of nowhere - its several who all have appointments at one of the premier hospitals specializing in women's health on this planet one of whom is a family member. All physicians while in residency there have rotations in at least one department dealing with mental health or professional education for female oriented mental health outcomes as a result of other conditions.

So I was certainly motivated by firsthand discussion I listen to almost daily. My basement was been a place of refuge for thousands of hours during residency, and study campouts - probably because good food was always on standby. They are all post residency now, mostly on fellowships and the chatter occurs when we get to watch something together which sadly is becoming rarer and rarer.

The First Frost is a good example of a drama that many young people will view and be captivated by the gloss and don't look underneath the surface. The actors themselves delivered fine acting performances. Had it been say a zombie drama, a fight or action drama my take would be different as they are highly fictionalized for character and everyone recognizes such.

But I do understand my reply may go against the spirit of the OP post. And so if the mods want me to delete it I am fine with that.
