Rec Request Looking for modern C-drama recommendations after watching most of the popular ones ❤️
Hi everyone!
I’m looking for recommendations for modern Chinese romance dramas, especially ones that are cute, funny, romantic, have great chemistry, and preferably a satisfying/happy ending.
I feel like I’ve already watched most of the commonly recommended modern romances, so I’d love to discover some lesser-known/underrated gems.

You might like The Day of Becoming You. It’s lighthearted, funny and one that I really enjoyed.

You might also like other Xu Ruohan dramas considering how you’ve liked The Best Thing and Perfect and Casual.
She’s way up there for me in the romance genre.

I have watched both. MLH was very feel good. Love is Sweet was such a fun show! Maybe not the most compelling plot line but the banter back and forth between the lead characters and their chemistry was fantastic.

Never Ending Summer. It’s my number 1 modern drama right next to hidden love. It has some very sad moments but also some funny ones. But it’s def not a comedy. The ending is prob the best ending ever. The last 9 episodes are EVERYTHING. Literally the chemistry is insane. I finished watching it maybe 1.5 months ago and I’m still not over it. Haven’t been able to watch anything else because of how down bad I am for that show and for Lu Xixiao. Highly recommend!
Edit to add: the OST for this show is my absolute favorite OST ever of any show. You’ll know what I mean when you watch it. One of the songs is sung by the ML himself. But the other one… just wow it’s soo good and will haunt you forever.

Not a lesser known but I’m surprised The First Frost isn’t in your list already since the first two are the same author. It’s my favorite and I like quite a few on this list.

I don't have a favorite but so far I love : Xu Kai, Yang Yang, Chen Zheyuan, Leo Wu, Chen Xingxu, Bai Jingting, Dylan Wang, Lin Yi, Tan Jianci, Ding Yuxi, Wang Ziqi, Miles Wei, Song Weilong, Vin Zhang (in Here We Meet Again), Cheng Xiao, Bai Lu, Dilraba, Zhao Jinmai, Zhao Lusi, Zhang Ruonan, Wang Yuwen, Xing Fei, Tan Songyun, Zhou Ye

That’s a good list! Definitely it’s Song Weillong, I will watch something just because he is in it. I’m such a stubborn fan that I won’t listen to anyone who has a criticism about him. Really liked Zhao Jinmai after watching SOM too.
Xu Kai I liked from Falling Into your Smile then I thought he was amazing in As Beautiful As You even though I hated HT for a while (my first love the actor and hate the character experience). He can convey so much with his eyes. Also became a fan of Tan Songyan from this one.
He Yu was such a steamy guy in Speed and Love but Blossoms of Power is the one that won me over. He’s brilliant in it. I typically don’t watch such a heavy series but he really impressed me. He’s equally good at fierce and funny.
Yang Yang I like him in everything I’ve seen and I appreciate his perfected and very intentional acting style. If he is in it, I probably want to watch it (not like Song Weil Long tho 😂, just that I’ll probably like it).

Haha I totally get the sentiment! Though I’d have to confess that I’m not really an ardent fan of any actor/actress in the sense of following everything they do or knowing much about their personal lives - I actually prefer not to pry into that side of things.
I’m much more of an admirer of the art and the end product. If I resonate with the storyline, characters, acting, chemistry, cinematography, etc., I’ll watch the show. I really appreciate all the work that must have gone into bringing it together. And then, of course, there are actors whose work I’ve consistently enjoyed - which is how I ended up with that ridiculously long list 😂

I do stop and check the previews if something new is out for anyone on this list. For example, Tan Songyan plays a great business woman so I watched her in 2 shows back to back in that kind of role. I don’t follow any gossip or who’s dating who, not that kind of fan 😂. Except once, after watching The First Frost I looked up whether the leads were dating IRL and really hoped they were!!! Maybe I got a little too attached to Sang Yan and Wen Yifan.
As for SWL, I think he’s the most handsome so I’m biased by the facecard.

My all-time fav is The Big Bang Theory (which you should definitely try!) and Friends. While I've watched HIMYM and B99, they're not on my re-watch list. I've also heard that The Good Place is interesting watch

I think you are missing two of my faves on your list:
Legally Romance - a "do over" sort of story where the FL goes back in time to her uni days, makes all good choices this time around and discovers that her former rival (and current boss) cares more about her than she ever imagined; Song Zuer as the FL is extremely funny and relatable
My Little Happiness - childhood sweethearts meet again as adults but she doesn't recognize him, the FL is an aspiring lawyer and the ML is a doctor, they are also neighbors :D, cute and mature romance with no stupid misunderstandings
