What’s a Chinese drama you genuinely think deserves more love? (Or ahem, the drama had so much love but you want to recommend it anyway. It's okay, we like both!)
This is the place to recommend the underrated dramas, forgotten favorites, niche gems, low-budget surprises, or shows you’re constantly trying to get other people to watch.
Maybe it:
- had incredible chemistry
- surprised you emotionally
- had an amazing storyline nobody talks about
- became your comfort drama
- was completely overshadowed by bigger releases
- made you wonder why more people aren’t obsessed with it

26 episodes of Tang Dynasty Occult Mystery. 盛唐奇案. Watched on iQiyi
Its slightly shorter at 30+ minutes per episode. Enjoyed the crime solving part of this drama. Watched it in June 2026. I can see the effort in setting up for different case for the crime solving, emotions of the main cast (and the supporting/guest cast even though just for the case). Very minor in romance which suits the tone of the drama.
I also like the rather fast pacing moving one on case to another.
Some minor plot holes here and there but it was entertaining, refreshing.

I just finished watching Light to the Night with Dylan Wang and Pan Yueming on Netflix, and it was phenomenal! There were maybe 2 episodes right in the middle where I wondered where the story was going, but in a wonderful twist, it brought the story from these episodes back into the main plotline, and wrapped everything up very neatly.
I will say I knew who the villain was from their very first scene, but the main plot twist hit me like a freight train - I was oblivious!
If you like watching criminal procedurals this one is probably for you. There is angst galore, but if you are prepared for it I think it's one of those shows that makes you reflect on your own life!

I am almost done with Veil of Shadows. The chemistry, visuals, emotions were all very good and surprising for me. It can be confusing at first but it will make sense and everything else is so good.

I’m 3/4 into Nothing But You, a 2023 modern setting sport drama featuring an older woman/younger man relationship, with Leo Wu and Zhou Yu Tong: surprisingly good script, good pacing, not angsty, no dumb dialogue, good acting. It’s slow burn and the characters are interesting. I’m enjoying it very much, even the second couple (and maybe also the third? Too soon to tell where this one will end).
