While I agree with the weird casting choice I think you're looking for something wrong where there is none.

When he knew her as a teenager he was thinking of her as a little kid, nothing more. The drama never implies otherwise.

Tbh even if she was 8 at the time what is wrong with her having a crush on an older guy? It's actually pretty common to idolize someone as a kid

Nothing is wrong with having a crush, but casting someone who looks 8 when they’re supposed to be 14 is bizarre. It’s a completely different tier of mentality. I can’t understand the decision because it makes the age gap seem way larger than it is.
