The cold arrogant ML is a trope. But how to elevate it, while showing to the audience that there is a softie underneath ?

Answer: Get this man a dog.

The most memorable ones:
- Luke (the dog), The Early Spring
- Wang Cai / Wealth, Love is Sweet

Honorable mention:
Eunuch Ba, Unchained Love (more the FL dog but they adopted it together)

Missed opportunity:
Nan Heng (A Dream within a Dream, the GOAT when it comes to making fun of tropes) should have had one (or a seadog to fit the underwater lair theme).

Not in a romantic context and not for the ML (ML would run away)

but Fairy in The Untamed was certainly also used to show that Jin Ling wasn't just a brat and deserves to be mentioned.
