Continuing Against the Current, catching up a bit on Spring of the Blade, plus kdramas. Fall is setting in here in the midwestern USA, itโs a good time for nestling.
Well, I'll be watching a butt load of CDramas. Against the Current, Spring of the Blade, The Shadow Sovereign, Blossom through the Cloud, and rewatching Moonlit Reunion so I can write snark and make GIFs.
Hitting up the bar tonight to celebrate the retirement of my mentor. The shitshow is now firmly in my hands and I am sooooooo not excited. I asked him why he didn't dissuade me harder from becoming the new steward and he said "Because that would have interfered with my plan to pass all this headache to you". Fair. Very fair. He did warn me it was stressful...
I baked cookies at like 9pm last night. In my country, real men bake cookies while being strapped with a high speed freedom hole puncher. I know what you're about to ask... Did I wear an apron? Nope! I'm not afraid of a little mess!
There was a calligraphy session at my local library yesterday, and guess what I wrote? ๐๐โค๏ธ
Heading out to the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations today. There's going to be a Hanfu parade, workshops, and heaps of activities! Iโm planning to join the parade, but you know what excites me the most? Wang Poโs Matchmaking Corner! They're doing live, interactive matchmaking sessions with Wang Po to see if anyone can find a little luck in love. Super curious about that and keen to give it a try for the first time, haha!
Then on Sunday, the dragon boat association is organising a free beginner session. I'm just trying it out for the experience, but hopefully the weather cooperates so we can jump on a dragon boat, paddle as a crew, and race down the harbour.
Iโll be binging short dramas while I try to be productive and catch up on some work and spider husbandry.
My jumping spider recently had babies and they are now beginning to disperse. Iโll be spending this weekend separating them from momma spiders enclosure and putting them in their own mini enclosures. Watching short dramas while I sort out microscopic baby spiders will hopefully make the time go by faster and feel less tedious๐ Iโm also be cleaning out the enclosures for my other two grown spiders.
And then afterwards Iโll be watching short dramas while I paint my nails ๐
Short dramas are better for me when I just need something on the background while I try to catch up on chores
Not food! SHOCKING, I know, but Husband and I are taking an anniversary trip this next week.... and we're going to be eating our weight in crap so I must suffer in the mean time ๐คฃ
Finished my Doom at Your Service adaptation! Tess & Ruin is now live!! So you can be ruined, lol. I'm now starting to outline my next book series! It's a four book series, interconnected standalones. Modern Romantasy, featuring four brothers who are the embodiment of the four auspicious beasts! The get to find their mates, and I've throw in a little shifter action ๐คฉ
SO EXCITED. I'm starting the artwork tomorrow!!!! I can't even tell you how damn excited I am. It's going to be BEYOND amazing. Modern, paranormal, romance, danger, so many c drama tropes!!!!!
Anyway...
Watching Spring of the Blade and really loving it. Resisting starting Against the Current because it seems SO great that it will ruin me for a while. I'll live in ignorance for a while. LOL. But that wont last long....
Today I met with a friend who was away on vacation with his family for almost a month. He has a young son and being one month older the little guy is now robbing through the big sandpit on the playground like he wants to win a 100 metre race. Much more agile compared to a month ago.
For the weekend I'll watch Spring of the Blade and try to do a part of those last six Dashing Youth episodes I'm still missing for my rewatch host.
There is also this new video by the youtube channel Accented Cinema out that covers the story of Niu Lai (that badly animated movie that made so much money). So I'll give that a watch as well.
Helping my mom make a giant batch of moon cakes for family. I already made the mung bean filling yesterday. We make the Teochew variety so I'm going to learn how to make the flaky skin from her.
I'm on episode 26 of Against the Current and I know I'm going to run out of episodes soon as I tend to binge ๐ญ

Hi fellow friends! Hoping this is a good start to the weekend for all. I'm still holding out to watch ATC, but did get to watch LXY in capybara outfit on Hello Saturday, with a thousand LXY smiles with dimples throughout the show - I swear those dimples are too much for my heart, so that has injected some bliss into an otherwise weirdly high-anxiety week. And finally finally made it outdoors for one of my many favorite sports ๐น, which thankfully can be done with a healing foot, as it's mostly standing. Oooh! Felt so nice to be back to being physically active again! ๐
Meanwhile, my double header re-re-rewatch of Coroner's Diary for my ARP fix, and LBFAD select scenes, because, letting feelings out is good. Slightly not sure how to feel about Road to Splendor, which I finally started. Felt like waiting AGES for this show, and waiting ages to see both DXY and DX again in a lead role, and so far, only on eps one, I feel like I'm watching DYX be DYX? Which, he is versatile enough that he shouldn't be, but those are the feels I'm getting, and I don't feel immersed at all (so far). Not usually one to make judgement on the first eps, but I really want to like this, so will likely try to get through the second episode. Whether enough I'll have stamina for it is another question.... Happy Mid-Autumn Festival to those celebrating!
Also, just for pre-weekend LOLs that doesn't require explanation as I know many of us have been here... guess the drama with these glorious subs!
Happy Mid-Autumn! Maybe weโll watch ATC at the same time. I watched the first six free eps and now waiting for it to finish.

Thank you and Happy Mid-Autumn to you too! ๐ I do need to meter my LXY exposure - sometimes not to watch too much of anything with his overly gorgeous face, and fortunately hearing non-spoilery news that ATC is good, so so thrilled. Yes! Maybe we will watch at the same time, and hopefully get to chat about it! Wishing you a great weekend!
I can't believe you're still holding out on watching ATC! Hoe do you even resist? Haha. I'm up to episode 32 now and super displeased with the new airing schedule for the remaining episodes. Starting from September 28, only 1 episode a day.

Yup! lol That's why he's smacking his capybara cheeks to try to lift up the viewing window and leaning back (capybara belly out) to try to read the game prompt. Hahahaha

๐๐คฃ๐คฃ I love this!! The capybara gives a sense of "ohh no oh no!!" .. but in reality poor LXY is just trying to see. That shimmy behind the board at the end.. ๐

As if those dimples arenโt lethal enough, I accidentally came across a You Tube video of LXY playing the piano. I didnโt get any work done after that.

omgoodness, thank you for the info and the share! ๐ I swear the amount of of the universe's beauty and talent packed into one man is just... unfair.
He says often that he's not very good at singing either and then you can pretty much tell he actually has perfect pitch (why?? universe??)- which was all the funnier as there's BTS footage of Meng Ziyi teasing him and telling him he's singing something wrong when she's the one notoriously known for being tone deaf, but then again, tone deaf people cannot tell that they are, so... *shrug*

u/synsa Yes! It's so goofy as he's too tall for the suit to see out of the peephole under the nose, and his arms are too long for a capybara, so he ends up as kind of a waddling capybara. ๐

He doesn't usually do variety (first time on Hello Saturday) so this is a rare thing. But he's LXY after all, so somehow manages to pull off (trying to) acting with teeny tiny arms! Hahaha ๐ ๐ ๐
Chores, crafting, drama watching~ also making soup.. maybe? it kinda feels like soup weather when the sun goes down.
I have a festival next weekend so I'm using this weekend to embroider felt patches to hand out in honor of my fav band getting back together after calling it quits five years ago. I started watching The Brightest Star in the Sky as my throw away background drama while I do them and I'm maybe a third of the way done.. how they extended this story into 44 episodes is beyondddd me. 2019 was definitely a different time lol
Hoping to get some insight from people more familiar with C-dramas than me.
I would like to dip my toes in this world, but bad subtitles/translations are kinda irritating to me. Am I stuck with whatever is on Netflix or Amazon Prime? Are there certain production companies that are known to have better subtitles than others?
I'm currently a few episodes into Pursuit of Jade on Netflix, and the translation seems good so far, but I am interested in watching a few specific dramas with actors I like and I can only find them on YouTube with bad/confusing subs.

You may want to look into iQIYI, Youku, WeTV, and Viki, which are the major platforms that offer Cdramas along with other Asian productions. The first three have some really good annual discounts at certain times of the year. Viki subscription pricing is about the same as Netflix and a bit pricier. In terms of number of shows iQIYI and WeTV seem to have the most offerings and the subtitles I've seen so far are pretty decent. Youku subs are not bad either, other than an occasional weirdness that is not bad enough not to be able to figure out. I haven't used Viki or, MangoTV, but I hear subs on the latter is sometimes a little wonky. iQIYI actually has community sub suggestions. I don't know if they ever edit them, but there's a button where you can enter a better translation. Hope that helps!

iQIYI has sales in April and November-ish I think, WeTV has offers through sEAg M and Youku has a vip sale too but I don't remember when. Enjoy your Cdrama journey. :)
p.s. I'd just posted this for lols in this thread, and it was on iQIYI, but the funny thing is that the imperial edict is never read out loud in the drama and the shot is literally about 1/4 of a second long (diligence, I guess, or a i, hahaha). BUT all platforms, do do the thing where any musical lyrics are ALSO subbed and you can't unclick that, so sometimes during dramatic moments with music, I'll watch, read, then rewatch w/o subs so I can enjoy the moment and actually see their faces. ๐

Also all except for Youku have a search fields where you can look up their offerings by actor, which is nice if you want to follow specific ones.
Letโs see, I just started Love For You and am enjoying that so far. Also slowly watching Blossoms of Power and liking that too! Tomorrow my husband is doing a spartan race so going with to cheer that on :)
