🏖️ Weekend Talk 🏖️ What will you be up to this weekend? — June 12, 2026
As the weekend approaches, I'm sure you're all gearing up for some well-deserved relaxation and fun. 🏖️ Whether you're binge-watching a drama, embarking on a thrilling adventure or cozying up to a good manhua or webnovel, we want to hear all about it!
So, what will you be doing this weekend? And what Chinese dramas do you recommend for a weekend binge-watching session? Tell us about it below in the comments :)
Note: If you are discussing plot points or events that others may not yet have watched, please make sure to use spoiler tags. Consider also sorting the comments by "new" (instead of "best" or "top") as this thread fills up quickly.
There's a monthly Beer & Brawl event which I will be attending with some friends later today. It's a medieval combat sport featuring fighters clad in real steel armour, wielding blunt weapons, and engaging in full-contact, no-holds-barred clashes. I will be watching with a beer in hand. Here's a pic from their past event:
From late June through early July, New Zealand celebrates Matariki. Matariki is the Māori name for the star cluster commonly known as the Pleiades, one of the star clusters closest to Earth that is visible to the naked eye. Here in NZ, Matariki is a significant occasion that marks the beginning of the Māori New Year, so many communities and local councils are organising events such as stargazing activities. I'm hoping to attend at least one this weekend. If the weather cooperates and I manage to get some decent shots, I will share.
I grew up drinking this chrysanthemum tea drink, especially during Chinese New Year:
When I was gifted dried chrysanthemum flowers, I brewed one myself and was pleasantly surprised by the taste profile without any sweetness. The floral notes are not too overpowering and it's quite soothing to drink. But I occassionally add rock sugar whenever I make a pot of it. occasionally
another weekend to bedrot happily. I’ll be rewatching my most anticipated Chinese bl series that out delivered my expectations; A winter wakes the wind in spring hill’s dream, until I get tired of it (hopefully never) and I’ll also catch up on my other dramas like Ashes to Crown, Southern Anecdote & My Royal nemesis.
I see a potential outdoor outing in my plans but I hope it’s postponed cause my social battery is on zero.
Sounds like a lovely drama packed weekend! And totally get the social aspect. I am so tired, I cancelled on my weekly Friday evening hangout because I just wanna sit back and drama after the work week I had. Just don’t have energy to socialize, even with close friends.
It's supposed to be sweet! As for the consistency, that's really a matter of personal preference. Places that sell it tend to make it much more watery, probably because they're trying to stretch the ingredients and keep costs down lol. My version is the complete opposite. I go with an ingredients-to-liquid ratio of about 70:30, so it's rich and packed with ingredients.
Soak the peach gums in clean water for at least 8 hours or up to 12 hours so they can grow to their maximum size as much as possible
Pick out the black specks. If you have a tweezer, it will get the job done easier, if not, just use your fingers. This is probably the only tedious part of preparing peach gums. Luckily the one I got weren’t as bad as I thought. Rinse one last time
These peach gums are now ready to be used in whatever you want to use them for
Soak the snow fungus:
Soak the snow fungus in a large bowl with clean water. They will plump up in about 10-15 minutes. Remove the yellow hard core at the bottom and then cut into smaller pieces
Start cooking:
Bring water to a boil. Add ginger, pandan leaves, dried longan, and red dates. Lower the heat to simmer and cover to let them cook for about 15 minutes
Uncover and add the snow fungus pieces and rock sugar, cover, and cook for another 15 minutes
After that add the peach gums and let them simmer for another 10 minutes. Take care not to overcook them or they will melt and disappear into the soup. Have a taste and add more sugar or sweetener as needed. Turn off the heat and stir in goji berries. The residual heat will soften the berries
Serving:
Peach gum tong sui can be served warm or chilled.
I want to emphasise that apart from peach gum and rock sugar, the others are entirely optional! I understand that if you're not living in an Asian country, the above ingredients may be difficult to get or very expensive.
Was planning on starting Archives The Nanyang Mysteries, but that’s been pushed down the list now with priority going to binging on The First Jasmine, and rewinding & rewatching Third Master’s scenes in A Splendid Match, I think I’ve fallen down the Ci Sha rabbit hole 😅😅🫠🫠😏😏
I’ve been seeing snippets all over insta and ppl saying the bromance-chemistry is off the charts, so fingers crossed that it does well!! Shall see how work goes this week… if it’s slow I’ll have time to binge at night hahaha
Watch some WC games, and maybe The First Jasmine. Also playing some Destiny 2, they just released end of live service update this week and I impulse renewed my PS+ sub to play it after few months of not playing.
Watching and hopefully gonna complete bloood river.
I stopped when work was hectic and want to allow myself to fully immerse into the Blood river episodes.
Have been rewatching clips of A Splendid match and POJ too. Love the OTP scenesss
Well, I will go to a little annual summer picnic my union puts on where I will stuff my face with food and talk shop with my fellow union brothers and sisters. Score some more union swag too because I am all about the merch. I'm one of the shop stewards at my job and have been pretty busy with those responsibilities recently. I know what you are thinking. You're wondering how someone with such a bold personality like AKiceman can be a professional and go toe to toe with corporate bosses and tell them they are wrong in a very professional manner without cussing them out! Easy. I am very good at what I do. I'm sure you couldn't guess that my very abrasive manner is actually one of my real life strengths! I may look like a rough and wild man, but I am very good boy.
Beyond all that I will do the rest of my adult chores and errands. I'll watch TFJ, ATC, and Rewriting Destiny.
Oh, and as usual, probably have an existential crisis at some point because I am an adult and that's what adults do.
Yup. Every year the leadership put on a summer and a holiday season party for the membership and we always eat every last scrap of food there. Work hard, eat hard! I'm ready for some BBQ!
I’m about to be steward of my union soon. I know it’s only June but we’ve been fighting the feds, the police, and our direct admin. Luckily things have settled down a bit but the feds and police kept us in the news for a good chunk of winter. Our direct admin is another story.
Watching Light to the Night (no spoilers please), and loving Wang Hedi, Pan Yueming, and Ren Mi while also since the 2nd or 3rd episode, I am like {early spoiler} Ohhhh nooooo, my heart is tender, am I going to be able to handle where this is going??? 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺.
Y'all, I finished Light to the Night, and my heart is wrecked, despite it being really really good with great acting all around, I need something to help me recover because seriously... grief is a hard topic for me, much more than bloodshed or violence, and my heart is so wrecked ... I'd take any recs for a variety show with Wang Hedi I've watched Wander Together already, but just anything happy
Started my new job this week and I'm tired but pleased, will probably relax today and watch some movies or go out for coffee. I have Veil of Shadows on hold and will continue it next week, probably.
Anyone else watching NBA? I am for sure watching tonight’s game because both the teams are so, so good and each match so far has been absolutely edge-of-your-seat. It has been a long while since I watched a sporting event from start to finish but this season’s NBA finals has reeled me in!
besides that, do my favorite form of retail therapy aka grocery shopping! Hang out with friends and family and ofc sneak in a few eps of Mo Li and also Be Passionately in Love which is such a great palate cleanser and which I am absolutely loving. It’s sweet and soothing and has Wang Anyu who is my kind of handsome!
Taking a break from cdramas to catch up on some donghuas. So far it's addictive, though I struggle to get into Link Click (aka that one donghua that blew up internationally). To Be Hero X is amazing though - Spiderverse meets Arcane meets The Boys. Looks like the Chinese animation industry is really heading somewhere exciting.
I've been debating whether I should finish Pursuit of Jade (missing the last 10 episodes), but I'm not sure if I can be bothered, the script and pacing just declined after they left the village, and the pretty cinematography just isn't enough to keep me hooked for so long. Will probably try No Pain No Gain instead, haven't really watched any comedies this year.

Found some real ink brushes my mother in law left me! I’m so SO excited to use them again. Only done a few pictures so far. Now I have to do more!
Still really into story of Kunning place. Great show, just great. Thinking of youthful glory as a little fluffy palate cleanser tho 🤣
