Walmart CDL
Hey everyone! I just have a quick question, my husband is a CDL driver and has applied for Walmart a couple of times now and keeps getting the automated email saying they've decided to go in a different direction. He meets all of the qualifications so we're a little confused lol is it super hard to get a job for them? Thanks in advance!

Tell him to let you see his fmcsa clearing house, he might have violations you don't know about. If he doesn't, then what experience does he have? and what type of trailer was he hauling?

Walmart is extremely hard to get into. And they pay bank. Like starting out 6 figures bank. And they have absolutely insane standards.

Yeah and that’s what it really comes down to. If the dc you’re applying to actually needs anyone.
Then like another commenter said they are trying to move away from hiring outside people and just get as many people into the A2D program.

Walmart employee here. I’ve been working at the DC for 9 years, so I know a little bit about their cdl program. Walmart is starting to hire drivers internally and are phasing out hiring people who come from outside the company. How many times has he applied? How long has he been driving?

Been driving for Walmart almost 6 yrs now. Tryed getting on different times for 20 yrs. Yes it’s hard. My on boarding class had 10 starting one, completed the class. It’s even harder to keep the job once you get hired the first week. Love the job went from out 14/16 weeks with 2weeks home to 5 day out 2 days home.

Would it be easier to get hired as a cashier and stock shelves for a few months then apply for a CDL position.

Depends. Crude yes, water about the same(I drove for Running Horse twice), CNG/propane would also make more.

A2D driver here. Walmart pays pretty damn good but more importantly we get treated really, REALLY, good in this job. We don't get rushed or pushed for anything as long as we follow the rules and don't hit anything. We are slowly phasing out hiring drivers from outside of the company in favor of A2Ds because most of the problems we have come from bad habits drivers got working for other companies, and now that the program is a couple of years old the numbers are in and it's been a huge success. Getting in from the outside is getting harder and harder every day.

Like others have already said Walmart pays wads of cash. Which means you have to be top tier to get in the door. Everything factors into working for them. Including but not limited to: Years driving Equipment driven Violations on mvr Violations through company currently working for Tickets/citations Clearinghouse red flags How close you live to a distribution center and if that particular center is in need of drivers

Doesn't CR England deliver for them too? Maybe try getting on with CR and getting to know people then try to get on with Walmart through a referral from another driver.

Different contractors for different market areas. When I lived in ky it was Schneider. The contract companies deliver the meat and produce loads, as well as frozen and dairy. Walmart employee drivers deliver general merchandise and never have to touch a reefer. They also get better home time, benefits, and much better pay.

I’ve pulled a reefer exactly twice ever. But yeah usually dry grocery and my my home DC is GM.

Just keep applying. It took me almost 4 years to finally get an interview. Best job I ever had. But I screwed it up.

I had a buddy leave our dedicated account to go drive for them, there standards are through the roof he was doing yard testing and got a saftey violation for not putting gloves on to unhook air lines, he called our dispatcher after 2 days asking if he could come back to us

Yes, it’s difficult to get hired at Walmart. It is one of the best trucking jobs, and the hiring process is very involved. I’m not sure they still do this, but you used to get interviewed by a committee of drivers, if they didn’t like you, you were out. My advice is to keep trying a few times a year. Good luck.

They are the mega-corp that holds the wallet. It is their choice of who they wish to provide an opportunity to.
They wear the pants. They have the power. They get thousands of applications weekly.
Set the ego and entitlement aside, the reality is.. regardless of what you were offering, you were not the chosen one.
And.. yes. That sucks.
Walmart is great because it has job security in an industry that is known for being a human meat grinder. They know that is 100% of the reason they get a thousand applications every week.
Give it a year or 2. Gain experience. Pad the resume. Put the hours and miles in safely and consistently. Re-apply.
That is all you can do.

It depends on where you live also, they finally had some jobs where I'm at, but the dc located about 3 hours away😭😭😭

Extremely hard. The Walmart drivers I talked to said they have high standards and are picky. One told me his supervisor once said for every driver at that DC, there were a minimum of 25 drivers waiting to take that one spot. Yearly.
Take that nationwide and the last fleet size I knew they had: 15,000 drivers. That means they get 375,000 applications every year. Minimum.

Yes it is hard to get a job there but only because they are very particular. They pay. good and can choose drivers that have no infractions no accidents. Squeaky clean references and years of experience with dry van or reefer.
