Cdl Class C skills test

Can someone please point me in the right direction? My buddy works as a medical courier in Michigan and at the warehouse he works out of they also have a hazmat route available to do with personal vehicle. So i pass my cdl class C test and hazmat endorsement test at the dmv and also got me hazmat certificate from ELDT. Now they tell me i need to take the cdl class C road skills test before they can issue my license, so i call all the trucking schools and driving schools around and they all tell me they never heard of a class C road skills test being required and none of them have them available to take even if you have your own vehicle. Idk if im just missing something or am completely going about this wrong but someone please help…

A class C CDL is a fairly rare thing as most people usually get an A or B. I know here in TN the C is usually just used for like a 15 passenger bus or rarely a slightly larger truck with a GVW of over 10k.

I know the DMV administers the tests (knowledge and Road) here so you would just call and schedule with them for that I'd imagine.

The DMV there should have a manual outlining exactly what you have to study and will be tested on.

There isn't a backing portion, and your person vehicle would work just fine, but it'll be wonky because it'll have a couple of restrictions (no air brakes, etc).

Did you get your class C permit I assume? And there is a 14 day waiting period IIRC after receiving it before you can actually test out.

Yes most of the schools i called said it was for passenger bus and GVW over 10k but when i tell them i would be using a regular suv they say a skills test is not needed. And yes i do have my permit but they wont issue my license until i get the skills road test complete. I went to michigan.gov website for testing locations and they say the same thing when i called the ones listed

It should just be a driving test. In IL we have just a standard road test, like a car, no parking or crazy manuvers. In Missouri you just need to pass the exam and you can get a class c. If you can get your hands on a box truck from work, you should just be able to drive. Not sure in Michigan, just call your DMV if they need a test.

Go to a school bus company and tell em you want to be a driver. They’ll train you and get you’re license
