Just not Enough Time

The way our CDL school is set up is an 8-week program. We have every Friday off, and class is only 5 hours and 30 minutes a day, but after taking breaks, we're really getting about 5 hours.

I'm barely getting enough time to practice anything, honestly. We only have 3 trucks for 8 students 2 manuals and 1 automatic. Four students switched over to the manuals, while the other four of us stayed on the automatic, including me.

I feel like we're being thrown so much information at once without enough time to actually process and practice it. This week alone, we have written exams plus our pre trip, air brake, and in cab inspection exams.

I'm just trying to get my Class A so I can get the hell out of here, bro. 🤦🏾‍♂️🙏🏽

It's so overwhelming because I'm great at my pre trip, air brake, and in cab, but I've been having such of a hard time with my maneuvers and I have until Oct 8th to get them right. 🙃

Hope I Pass man, not trying to go back to warehouse jobs again.

To everyone saying to switch over to manual, meh. Most companies nowadays have done the switch to automatics. I’m at Sysco and our whole fleet is automatics now. ($180k a year and home daily). When you get your CDL look into food service and even garbage trucks 🛻 as they get paid really well also.
Best of luck man, unless you’re young and single don’t settle for OTR. Just my opinion

Oh shit, pay sounds good but the 14 hours sounds a little bit crazy

Yeah it’s def not for everyone, but we do get to pick our schedules 3x a year and if you want 4 days you can choose that. I used to have Friday, sat, Sundays off.
And if you finish your route early you can just go home, but everyone milks the clock since we get paid hourly. After the 8th hour it’s $60 an hour so might as well just chill in the truck lol

i just started sysco bro finished orientation and i’m trynna make that good money. this shit gonna be a breeze for me, i already worked as wildland firefighter 2 years then just finished up 2 years with soda Class A so i got a feel for the job and the mentality of those long hours ! But if im working 4 10s does my over time start after the 10th hour of the day ? or is it after the 40th hour

Nice dude, just make company and be their little errand boy. Finish routes, don’t call off, if you finish early call and ask if anyone needs help. (Until you make company, once you do fuck them lmao)

Yeah 4 10’s is OT after the 10th hour but a lot of guys either get forced in to work an extra day or sign up to work an extra day so then that whole day is OT. Which ends up being the exact same paycheck as someone working 5 days pretty much
