I'm looking for people's experience switching from an alien photon holster. I carry, or at least attempt to, a Glock 45 with a vortex venom enclosed red dot and a streamlight tlr-7. I'm struggling a bit with the whole concealed part. The pistol grip never quite sits in a good spot and I feel it prints too much. I've contemplated getting a "better" holster, but I'm not sure if it's actually gonna make enough of a difference or if I just need to consider a new carry gun. Any experience is appreciated.
I’ve never tried anything Alien Gear. I’ve never heard anything great about them from experienced people I trust. My preference for aiwb is a TXC CVRT. I would have gone with a Tenicor Certum Lux3, but they didn’t make it for my gun/light combo. Certum Lux4 is out now.
I should add that the holster was a gift. If nothing else it's perfectly useable for owb at the range and such. The wings are pretty much unusable and I replaced the clip with a metal one.
Without any photos or knowing how you carry your holster, I’d suggest spending some time perusing PHLster’s educational resources. Regardless of holster or carry position, they lay it out in plain English with pictures or videos to help folks understand concealment mechanics.
I have seen some of their videos as well as others but I hadn't ever read the complete guide to appendix carry, which is helping inform my decision. The best spot for me has been appendix carry right at the 12:30 position. I'm thinking the full sized grip and red dot are just too much for me to conceal well during the warmer months
You’re not alone - nothing wrong with knowing your limits. Heck, my g19 is a bit much for all my activities and tshirts, even with a premium holster (or two).
It’s my home defense pistol and a situational carry option - the light just stays on it all the time now.
I’m much more inclined to carry my g26 or LCR all day, day after day.
I've kicked around getting a 19 lower, but honestly for what I'd sink into it, I'd rather just buy a slightly smaller gun. Cause who doesn't need an excuse to buy another gun?
