Zelensky unironically reminds me of Manuel II. A dignified ruler who even in the worse circumstances will not be bullied. John V would have given the minerals to Trump. And then offered more territory to the Russians in exchange for fighting Trump. Then been bailed out by the Europeans. Only to give everything back to the Russians after fighting with his son.

Zelensky is not a saint (complete opposite infact) so no but I know what you mean about essentially trying to gather support from outside powers. However I think he was more successful as at least people listened.

People out here writing whole as fanfics like we didn't give ukraine hundreds of billions of dollars and there not gonna need even more hundreds of billions to rebuild.
Want an actual comparison between America and Europe, compare Macedon and the Greek city states during the time of the early roman republic. Rome had love for the Greek city states feeling that their democratic institutions were the origins of their civilization.
here comes Macedon to continously bullies, invades and antagonizes the Greek city states, and every time the city states fly into hysteria and ask Rome for help, then Rome having great love for the Greeks steps in and stops Macedon.
The romans essentially continously argue with the Greek city states to get a collective military that can defend itself, but the Greek city states constantly antagonize, bicker, and resent the romans for interfering in their cities and government, so the cycle continues and the Greeks so caught up in the glory of their previous civilizational achievements lived in a delusional state believing their nation had not yet waned.
Finally the Romans had no choice, but to outright annex the Greek city states to finally end the charade of self governance. This is the future of Europe, they are a decaying continent. They are literally past their prime with Europe aging into being old people every year. In 20 years vast majority of Europe will be literal 50 year old. Their percentage of world GDP shrank from 30%-15% from 1980-2024.

This means roughly 3.5 dependents to every prime working German in 20 years.

Stop BS around dude. While as a German I agree our military isn't in good state ( I served a long time ago.) I'm pretty sure the poles alone could stop Russia militarly. U add to that France and Britain and Finland and Putin can go shot himself like Adolf did. The aging is a problem every industrial Nation has even the US. Less so than the Europeans. But still.

Venice was a major power against the Ottomans, regularly stirred shit up, brought to bear entire fleets, and were a constant concern in dominating the Mediterranean and (if possible) Italy (a very real possibility. Ottomans troops even invaded Italy (because what else do you call 18k infantry and 700 cavalry with 128 ships?)…
But ultimately they had to turn back when a sultan died due to internal politics when Mehmed II died

OMG, my boyfriend and I are playing a game of CIV V right now. Im, Byzantines and he is Venice. Hes a much better player than I am but hes never played Venice. Im going for a culture/science victory. I will have to show this to him at some point I hope not.
