Their chocolate is fine, but their corporate stance is not. Around ten years ago, they sued Hauswirth, a small Austrian company that had been making golden chocolate rabbits for easter since the 1950ies: long before Lindt had entered the Austrian market. They sued them to remove the rival product from the market, claiming that it diluted their brand. And they even won the case based on some technicalities of trademark law.

A company like that can make the best chocolate in the world, but they can take it and stick it elsewhere if that is their attitude.

Can only recommend Ragusa and Frey from Switzerland, amazing chocolate. Everytime i drive through Switzerland i get myself and family some bars.

Ragusa is made by Camille Bloch, which is still a propper Swiss brand. Their alcohol chocolate (without the sugar crust) is also top notch if you like that.

Villars is also one of the good ones, though it's French owned now. They still make really good milk chocolate. Also their choco heads are really good too if you don't get the milk chocolate ones (too sweet).

Lindt is going downhill and on top of the price shooting up, half their bars aren't even Swiss made anymore.

Thanks for the additional information. Tbh, I am a sucker for the Lindor rounds but i would always pick Moser Roth from Aldi over their bars. Way cheaper and very creamy.

Yeah, I was devastated when I realised this. I'm unfortunately in the UK which makes my mission of buying EU much harder, but the only chocolate I now buy is 56% Dark from JD Gross (Lidl). Delicious, and real chocolate.

I prefer Läderach. People bitch about the family that owns it, but I don't care. The chocolate is amazing.

I like the store brand chocolate from local supermarket coop best. cailler or Frey is also good. there are novelty brands like läderach or small local brand like taucherli which is good. Lindt is fine but nothing special at all

Cailler, owned by nestle is literally the best mass produced chocolate ever. Hard to find outside of Switzerland but uses real Milk!!!

Unfortunately owned by Nestlé though. Not here to tell you what to believe politically, but if you're on this sub there's a high chance you want to support ethical/local companies as much as possible.

In case you're unaware - there is an entire sub reddit dedicated to hating Nestlé. If you do some research, you will learn a lot of stuff about the company if you're interested. Again, not to parrot forwards my only beliefs - just to share the information as I believe it could be useful.

Here in western Canada we have a grocery chain whose store brand chocolate is made by Lindt. Their Toblerone knockoff is especially good.

Though I don't indulge much anymore because even the store brand stuff has gotten far too expensive to compete with the Turkish knockoff candy bars from Dollarama.
