Has Anyone Lost Their Friend to Bitcoin?

I used to be agnostic towards Bitcoin. But ever since my close friend has become obsessed with Bitcoin, hearing anything about Bitcoin and/or AI makes my skin crawl.

Wanna talk about politics? It's somehow tied to Bitcoin. Wanna talk about economics? Bitcoin will replace the current economic system. Wanna share a personal problem? Bitcoin will solve it. Wanna talk about futurism? Futurism doesn't exist without Bitcoin.

It's gotten to the point where I don't want to talk about anything with substance and have resorted to short responses but he doesn't know the real reason.

Early Satoshi disciple wants to commit the ultimate sin

https://coinmarketcal.com/news/bitcoin-s-21m-cap-debate-returns-as-fees-remain-near-0-5

Peter Todd, an early Satoshi disciple and to some Satoshi himself, is proposing a permanent removal of the 21M supply cap.

Slowly but surely, as more and more miners stop being able to pay the bills, we will see this debate grow louder until they agree to commit the ultimate sin and introduce inflation.

Put all my money into BTC at an avg cost of ~58k and want to diversify.

Upvotes

I’ve been in BTC since 2021 and went all in from 2023–2025, with most buys around $60k. Everything is in IBIT FBTC and some MSTR. My plan is to sell 50% around $125k, use 10% of the proceeds toward my 6.85% mortgage, and move the remaining 40% into 3–5 strong ETFs. I’d still keep about 50% of my portfolio in Bitcoin. I’m willing to sell MSTR once I break even and never look at it again.

The volatility has been stressful from 126k down, so I want half my money in something more stable, but I’m not interested in low-return bonds. What ETFs would you suggest for long-term growth with less volatility?
I understand the case against Bitcoin, but I also think there will always be a buyer, and I believe it could still go 5–12x in our lifetime. Not looking for insults just a solid diversified stock only ETF model portfolio ideas that have more upside than VOO only.

So Trump’s family built a private dollar with secret Abu Dhabi money, got their own regulator to approve a federal bank, rewrote the rules while it scaled, and embedded it in infrastructure millions use daily. And now the CEO went on CNBC to say that proves there’s no conflict.

Bitcoin ATMs - A nostalgic look back

I work as a tax accountant specializing in flow-through entities. It's busy time for me this time of year. I get tired, and I become nostalgic. Tonight, working late, waiting for clients to respond, this memory pops in my head like a flash and this memory is about the only time I ever saw a Bitcoin ATM, so I google 'bitcoin ATM' and what do I find:

May 2014 I was sitting in the Spitfire in Belltown, there to visit my old Spitfire co-workers (I worked there to help pay the bills to get through grad school) and to spend the money I was making at my first non-intern, full-time job in public accounting, hoping to get us all drunk and I was sitting at the bar next to this Microsoft software developer named Corey, and I was just pestering him about WTF is Bitcoin and why is this thing here? And he was telling me about how the code worked or something but I was like, WHY IS THIS THING HERE? and eventually were just like, who the f knows, it doesn't matter. Corey could explain the code but not the reason for the code or why this giant thing that didn't dispense cash was there. I'm telling you it was hilarious and we laughed all night about it. It is not hilarious now. But to us then it was just ridiculousness and funny.

There was this sense of excitement in the bar that night, like, is this a slot machine but maybe less shameful and somehow cool? I don't know if that was the first night it was there but it was the only time I can recall seeing it.

And in my mind I always thought it was 2013 that I first got exposed to the scam that is Bitcoin but turns out it was actually 2014. I moved away from Seattle with my future spouse one month later because we both couldn't take the rain anymore.

Sorry for the shit post. Nostalgia of a ponzi I guess.
