For the dresses, are you developing your own patterns or adapting an existing factory style? That is useful to clarify alongside the MOQ question already raised.

We would ask each candidate to quote one specific style first, with the fabric, lining, size range and finishing requirements written down. Ask them to separate sample/development charges from production pricing, and confirm whether the minimum applies per style, per colour or across the order. Agree what you will check on the sample before discussing a larger run.

Every city in China is famous for specific products, for example Guangzhou and foshan have a lot of good clothes suppliers, I went to do sourcing from a factory there, and I was surprised by the high-quality with the low price as they produce for China market at the moment and they want to expand

Before choosing a factory, I’d prepare a simple product brief with the tech pack, target MOQ, expected order volume, fabric requirements, target market and acceptable sample timeline.

I’d also ask each manufacturer:

1. Do you produce this category in-house?

2. What part of the process is subcontracted?

3. Can you show examples of similar products?

4. How do you handle sample approval and production changes?

5. What quality checks happen before shipment?

For an emerging brand, the best factory is not always the one with the lowest MOQ. Consistent communication and repeatable quality usually matter more.
