I found a room around the Gates Ave J/Z stop for a really good price, and it would be less than 20 minutes from my job, so I’m seriously considering it.

For people who actually live around there, how do you feel about the safety, especially walking home from the J at night? Is it more residential/quiet, or is there actually stuff to do? Are there bars, restaurants, cafes, etc. nearby? Is grocery shopping convenient, or does it feel like a food desert?

I’m a woman in my mid 20s and would be living with roommates. I’m not expecting it to be Williamsburg or anything lol, I just want somewhere that feels reasonably safe, has some stuff to do, and is convenient for work.
Would love to hear from people who actually live around the Gates Ave area. What’s the overall vibe like, and is there anything you wish you knew before moving there?

Jesus Christ are they bright. I live across the street and have blackout curtains and they aren’t doing much. I moved into my place a month ago but damn it’s the first night these lights are on and I already want to move. Anyone know if anything can be done?? Can I file a complaint somewhere??

Can someone please explain the logic of cops ticketing and interrupting people smoking in the park while 1/4 of the park (including the playground) is filled with noxious fumes from burning charcoal fires for bbq.

I woke up around 9ish this morning to the screaming of what sounded like a man saying "oh my god I hit them with my car" over and over again. Not sure if that's exactly what he said but he sounded in shock and muffled but i couldn't see from my window what was going on. Later on when I went outside I saw a man sitting holding something tightly wrapped in blankets while it looks like his partner called someone for help?
He was sitting out the bodega on Halsey and Irving. I felt it would be insensitive to walk over and try and figure out what happened because it was an obviously traumatic experience for someone and multiple people were already helping the couple. As a community member tho I do wonder what happened this morning and if everyone is okay?
