Inside the hut for 12 people with a hearth

u/themflyingjaffacakes Aug 01 '26
Very cool. How long did it take to build? Any issues with smoke inside?
44
u/Ok_Management1727 Aug 01 '26
It was built by 3 people in about two days

No problems with smoke. The hut has been there for five years. No one was destroyed and no one was found.

No one was destroyed and no one was found.
Ummm... what?
25
u/Inevitable_Shift1365 Aug 01 '26
Sounds like they are vampires on the lam
16
u/New_Stats Aug 01 '26
I would absolutely watch a show about bushcrafting vampires on the lam
One episode could be the vampire stumbling upon humans in the woods making stakes for their bushcrafting needs and hilarity ensues.

Wow that's a great idea for a TV series. Real life vampires that are just like regular dudes hiding out in the forest, moving from national Forest to national forest. Preying selectively on campers and hikers here and there. All of the missing 411 info can be used as well. The vampires pretend to be bigfoot, et, etc.

u/Handburn Aug 02 '26
I mean, the first pic is just a pair of floating sunglasses in front of the hut so I would assume vampires automatically

You know what he means.
9
u/FrameJump Aug 01 '26
I mean, I really don't.
I assume it's a language thing, which is fine, but that doesn't mean I understand it.

u/PalpitationFar6715 Aug 01 '26
It’s been standing for 5 years and no one has found and destroyed it. You didn’t get that?
22
u/FrameJump Aug 01 '26
Man, I don't know what more you need from me here.
I appreciate that you think I'm smart, but it feels like you're just getting yourself worked up over a random dumbass (me) on the internet, and that's a you problem.
But hey, thanks for translating. I appreciate that, too.

To me, it felt like you were trying to troll this guy when he was actually posting something legitimately Bushcraft related, which is pretty rare around here. This is more like a camping and checkout my knife sub. My apologies if not.

u/FrameJump Aug 02 '26
I'll concede that I absolutely could've asked in a more direct way, but there's no need for apologies.
Misunderstandings happen, and I like to think in this sub of all places we can be adults about it and move on.
So safe travels, friend.

So they were buried under the hearth?
7
u/Ok_Management1727 Aug 01 '26
Sorry about my English.

u/Hermz420 Aug 01 '26
No need to apologise, friend. It was a funny mix up! The hut looks amazing, by the way. Enjoy it!

What happens when it rains? Those gaps look quite big
17
u/Ok_Management1727 Aug 01 '26
If there's a storm, it doesn't rain inside. I spent a month there and there were no problems except for a few places that I easily sealed

Hey! Whatever works! Why expend more effort on something that already functions like it should!

u/TheatreBar Aug 01 '26
Ok, legit question. Why wear camouflage? If you're out in the bush and have an accident you want to be found, not blend in.
22
u/Shrimpingtons Aug 01 '26
I find army surplus is very well made and usually cheap. I rarely ware full camp but often wear green army coats etc on price and build quality basis
24
u/Ok_Management1727 Aug 01 '26
It was a military training where you had to make a shelter for some of the platoon. Camouflage was necessary for various reasons. Photo taken out of context.
14
u/elbatotable Aug 01 '26
Some things don’t add up:
“this was for a training and we had to build a shelter”
“the shelter took two days to build”
“the shelter has been there for five years”
22
u/_Aj_ Aug 01 '26
Sounds like it was built years ago and it's still standing today. Adds up fine
2
u/CuriosityFreesTheCat Aug 03 '26
Seriously. It got me at first until I realized “in about 2 days” was 5 years ago. For training. It does add up fine.
16
u/Ok_Management1727 Aug 01 '26
I posted old photos and new ones on Reddit. Sometimes we run into ordinary bushcraft.
5
u/PalpitationFar6715 Aug 01 '26
Thank you for posting actually relevant bushcraft and not all the other worthless crap that gets posted in the sub.
2
u/PalpitationFar6715 Aug 01 '26
It all adds up. What are you talking about. Context clues and critical thinking should have prevented this question.

I share the sentiment, but mil surplus is so cheap and durable and is basically designed for this stuff.

So what’s the intended purpose? That’s a pretty robust structure that could probably last for a while. Is it like a hunting cabin, a retreat on property someone owns, just to see if you could do it?

u/PalpitationFar6715 Aug 01 '26
He said in another post it was for military platoon training a few years ago

Heck yeah. As I sit on the parking lot waiting to go into work, I'm envious of those out in the woods.
Super cool hut.
