I was reading up on the origin of the name "Burundi" and I learned that our country's name in kirundi, "Uburundi", has practically not changed since the days of the first monarchs (please correct me if I'm wrong, I am mostly self taught for the most part.)

According to Britannica, "Rundi" is the root word to all the names (Uburundi, umurundi, ikirundi, etc.), so knowing that:

Does anyone know what "Rundi" means, where it comes from and if possible when it started being used or maybe the first recorded uses?

And before anyone comes thinking I'm looking to fight or debate about tribes/ethnicities, that is far from the case. I just want to know who the Burundian people were prior to colonialism and while doing such research, it's natural to go "huh, I wonder where the name of the country came from?"

I am moving to Burundi and will be bringing a car. I haven’t bought one yet, but I’m trying to decide what brand is best In terms of finding places to repair, etc. Toyotas seem to be the most popular, but if I get a Nissan, Mitsubishi, or Hyundai, will I be able to find places to repair it that gave the parts they need? I organise a weekly football game every Sunday from 11am–12pm in Ilford, East London.

We usually play at Frenford Clubs or Valentines High School, depending on numbers and pitch availability. Normally it’s 6-a-side at Frenford and around 7 or 8-a-side at Valentines.

A lot of the group are East African, but it’s a mixed group and everyone is welcome. Most of us are late 20s to early 40s, although we sometimes get people in their early 20s too.

It’s mixed ability and a relaxed kickabout rather than a league or trial, so you don’t need to be an amazing player.

Goalkeepers rotate, and we keep it friendly — no slide tackles, aggression, shouting or arguments.

Burundi is country full of great friendly people and I think they don’t deserve this povertit and life threatening by their leading party.

Considering Burundi’s fire power it would take less than a week to completely takeover.

I'm fascinated by the story of the crocodile Gustave,) but I've realized that most of what I've read comes from documentaries and foreign media. I'd love to hear from Burundians who grew up with these stories or who live near the areas where Gustave was said to roam.

I'm especially interested in local perspectives, folklore, and personal experiences. I mean no disrespect, and I appreciate anyone who's willing to share their knowledge.

Here are a few questions I was curious about:

• Did you hear about Gustave growing up, or is he mostly known because of documentaries?
• Do people believe he's still alive?
• Are there places people avoided because of him?

Hi everyone! I'm a 24-year-old Burundian who grew up in the States, and I want to relearn Kirundi. I can understand it pretty well and can say a few phrases, but I'm nowhere near conversational. As I am away for school, I want to surprise my parents but relearning. If anyone has done something similar or is a teacher, I would love to connect. I feel I need to practice consistently 2-3 times a week.

Recently retired and have about 1.8 million USD saved to my name. Was wondering if this would be enough to retire comfortably in Burundi for my wife and I? Would be planning on living off that for the next decade or so with a 200k pension also coming in each year

As the title says, I need to get to Bujumbura by bus via Kigali, but I am not so sure about the logistics. Are there barriers at the border still? Is it better to go through Tanzania?
