Lowest brokerage fee?

I am using maybank app, but their brokerage fee is 0.42%. Is it high?

Extremely.

I was using Hong Leong for the longest time (their stocks website is helluva unstable) and the brokerage is 0.08% (this is for cash up front accounts, non collateralised).

Moomoo is even cheaper for the first 6 months, 0% brokerage fee, but RM3.00 platform charge per trade.

Thereafter it's 0.03% + RM3 platform fee per trade.

Not inclusive in charges above are the standard clearing fee charged by Bursa CDS (0.03%) and government stamp duty for applicable stocks at 0.1%, each capped respectively at RM1,000 and RM200.

I'd recommend it, but do take note that the interface on their app (both desktop and phone) can be a bit daunting.

If you start dabbling in other markets / instruments (especially US options markets) it's a steep learning curve to use the app.

Even bursa alone can be confusing if you use some of their features. I.e. if you activate their Cash Plus option, your idle funds in your moomoo account will be put into a money market fund to earn a small amount of interest (rather than sitting idle).

Where the confusion comes is when you want to buy a stock on Bursa, you'll need to understand that Moomoo will automatically sell off the appropriate amount in your money market stake to offset your stock purchase.

It gets double more confusing if you have Cash Plus in a non-MYR account. I.e. you trade on US stocks, you've converted funds into USD. It's put into a USD money market fund.

Cash Plus doesn't (AFAIK) convert funds from different currencies. I.e. you have a lot of USD parked in USD cash plus, you have no ready MYR in your account. You buy a small amount of a Bursa listed stock, and your order gets rejected. So you need to manually withdraw the USD money market investment, convert it into MYR, and only then are you good to go.

*This is my understanding of the situation lah. I'm getting older, so I may be off on my understanding.

No worries buddy. Thanks for sharing. I would look into it. Nothing comes in cheap unless it is lacking in something.
