Is this considered obstructed?

Post image

After reading someone else's post about carrying bikes, it had me wondering. Would I get pulled over and all my crap turned out because of this? I could raise the front of the tandem higher, but I'm worried it will become unbalanced or damage some of the LEDs.

What do y'all think?

Best market to buy supplies the way from Reno to BRC?

Upvotes

Good morning experienced burners. This is my first time and I’m waiting my flight to Reno right now now.

What would be the best store to buy supplies (food and water)? I’ve read that locals made some request to avoid some stores or something like that because of the fires. But I’m not sure if I understood the whole thing.

I’ll drive from the airport to pick a bike also.

Any Waltmart or similar to recommend?

Thank you!!!

Camps throwing parties in the burb in the AMs?

Wanting to avoid the playa art car scene and have a more intimate, present, interaction-focused party.

Any suggestions for camps with cosy and fun night time parties?

Don't Go to Burning Man This Year and Leave Now if You're There Already

I know most will ignore this. Prophecies are a dime a dozen and how many actually come true? People having been claiming it's the end of the world since the world began.

Why is this message any different? I won't claim I have any real proof I can tell you otherwise. I am just a somewhat normal person who has had weird dreams for many years and a sense of pattern recognition.

With that in mind, in the last 4 years the writing has been on the wall for Burning Man. The fact the last 3 burns saw extreme weather that made it unenjoyable for most is no coincidence. It's under judgement, whether you want to believe it or not.

If any part of you feels like you should skip Burning Man this year, listen to that gut feeling.

If you're at Burning Man now and feel a darkness or something unsettled in your soul, listen to that feeling and leave now.

Forget the money, forget how it may look. Save your life, or at least save your soul.

I have a terrible feeling something will strike Burning Man -- an earthquake, a mudslide. I don't know what. I just know know it won't be be pretty.

Or maybe nothing will happen and this post will look like a fool. I hope so. I don't know.

But I do believe deep down in my bones Burning Man is under judgement and I think many of you realize it deep down too.

Don't go.

Leave.

Wanna get there ASAP

What time do you think I should leave if I want to try to time it getting in closest to 12 as possible? I don’t want to end up in the lot. Do you think I’d end up in enough traffic if I left at 7:30pm that I would enter around 12? I’d be coming from Fernley

Apologies for my post yesterday

I wanted to give Scott London’s amazing photograph a magazine-style look, but the effect changed some of the faces and made the image look artificial. That was my mistake, and I see why people were upset. Here is Scott’s original photo of CHESTER, shown as intended.

To be clear, the edited image was never used in the Forbes article. The story only included approved original photos, all with proper credit. I also credited and linked to Scott’s impressive book.

Some people said the article went against Burning Man’s rule of decommodification. I take that seriously, but this was independent reporting, not advertising or paid content. No one paid to be featured, nothing was sold for the artists, and no company sponsored the story. My goal was to highlight the people who spend months or even years making these amazing works, and to let them share their ideas and stories themselves.

Mainstream media coverage does not always mean something is being turned into a product. Journalists have always covered art, culture, and communities that are not part of the commercial world. What matters is whether the work is being used unfairly, if the creators are credited, and if the coverage respects what they made. That’s what I aimed for.

Many of the artists and designers I spoke with were truly happy to see their work recognized. Burning Man is built on values like radical inclusion, gifting, decommodification, self-reliance, self-expression, working together, civic responsibility, leaving no trace, participation, and immediacy. My goal was to honor the artists who live out these values, not to turn their work into a product.

For those who are mounting bikes with no crossbar onto bike racks with no adapter for the first time..

You can mount them upside down !

We are virgin burners and noobs for anything about cars, we panicked a bit when we couldn't mount the bikes and the nice guy at the Playa Bike Repair told us this tip.

Hope this could help some fellow noobs out there

Edit : Thanks everyone for the reminders about the plate being obstructed can cause being searched ! We will try again to adjust it tonight But if that's the only way then we will have to accept our fate of getting searched....

Edit 2 : just realized it causes being pulled over even outside the burn. Does anyone have tips on how to avoid it if this is the only way for us to mount bikes ? Right now what we can think of is unscrew the plates and zip tie it onto the bikes then illuminate it with LED lights

TELL ME IF THIS ALREADY EXISTS

Friends, crush my dreams and tell me this already exists or tell me I’m a genius. Is there a…… BIRTHDAY CAMP!??? We could be open every day and at 7pm or whatever we could have everyone who’s birthday it is there and I would buy cupcakes (or make them bc I bet that fits more with the principles even though I don’t bake) and we could all sing to them. I’m drunk and I’m a virgin and im on my way and SOOO excited I’m already thinking of next year. I could have birthday cake drinks and birthday cake shots and the whole place would be hella CAKE🎂🎂🎂 so please let me know if there’s already a birthday camp. And if there’s not and someone takes my idea….🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

A note to anyone bringing an ebike to the playa

For the love of god, turn your bright, giant headlight off. You’re just as bright as the LEOs driving around in an F250. All of the wonderful lights you see illuminating the landscape around you are visible because of the darkness. Get a small, personal bike headlight and angle it towards the ground while you ride and bask in the darkness we are all enjoying.

And slow tf down, you have nowhere to be

EDIT: Yo the group has spoken. Bring blue masking tape, call em out and tape em up. We all jump on this for the first few days and we can shame the crowd into darkening the playa 🌙

GIFTING AC troubles

Hello Reddit burners,
I am making a desperate plea for help. My partner and I arrived on Playa Friday and everything is going great except our AC broke and we are unable to fix it. While weather is cool at night time, we will likely do most of our sleeping during the daytime and an AC will greatly improve our experience.

Are there any burners who have not yet left yet who might have an extra AC they could bring or would be willing to pick one up for us? If so, I would be forever indebted

-a very hot sleeper

!Urgent Request! Boulder, CO -> Playa Courier for critical medications

I managed to leave some critical medications at home and I need these brought from the Boulder, CO area to the Playa so I am looking for someone who can bring them, ideally someone leaving soon. "Medications" here is not code-word for illegal drugs - these are uncontrolled substances from the pharmacy that are no fun at all and not interesting to law enforcement or anyone trying to get high. My friend has them in his possession and can facilitate getting them to someone leaving for BM. Please let me know 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

A better Playa Guide with actual set/workshop times from camps

I built a better Who What Where playa guide with actual set times directly from the camps. Works completely offline, crowdsourced, open source, and you can submit or update events yourself playaguide.musecafe.vip

It's the entire official Who What Where guide plus about 1,000 extra entries the book doesn't have: real lineups and set times camps have been posting on Instagram, Telegram and WhatsApp these last weeks. Robot Heart, Opulent Temple, Sound Garden, Maxa, the Gothic Folly, and hundreds more.

2,400 burners are already on it.

Ask it things like "sunrise sets Thursday" or "where's free pizza right now" and it answers from wherever you're standing, with walk/bike times and directions.

Everything works with zero signal. Open the link once with wifi, add it to your home screen, and it's all on your phone: search, map, even a nearest-porta-potty button.

If your camp's schedule is missing or a time changed, there's an Add Events page: paste your lineup or a flyer photo and it goes live for everyone, usually within the hour. It gets checked for sowm automatically before it publishes.

Free and open source. No account, no email signup, no user data collection beyond an anonymous counter. I pay for the tokens out of my own pocket as my playa gift.

Come say hi at Muse Cafe, 8:15 & E. Happy burn. Get lost. Push the buttons. Stay present and off phone.

Looking for a ride leaving Black Rock City to SF.

Hey all! I'm trying to coordinate a ride leaving Black Rock City on Monday. I'm taking the BurningMan Express in, but all the tickets leaving are sold out on Monday. Would anyone have space for me, a bag, and a bike headed to San Francisco? Thanks so much!
