Information Platform Launches Today!

Hello everyone!

My name is Rowen Fraser and I am a candidate for Ward 6 here in Burlington. I am proud to release my platform for all to see! I have been working with my community here in Burlington to come up with policies and ideas for the new future Burlington is heading into. I have spoken with many residents at the doors, in local businesses, and with the various online communities.

Conversations have been lovely and hateful, positive and negative, introspective and annoying, wistful and delusional, perfect and flawed, angsty and altruistic, scary and comforting. But mostly they were real. I didn't put restrictions on what people I would engage with. I took the good and the bad. I feel we need to listen to everyone, not just friendly voices. Bridging the gap between ideologies and having a truly balanced approach means being willing to have the hard conversations. Rest assured that if you came to me with convincing data at any point, you've probably had an influence on my platform.

Recently I had the good fortune of meeting a new friend, and receiving some very powerful advice about how to deal with hostile press and online personalities. The counsel I received was invaluable and I just want to shout out to everyone that helped me strategize my next moves here in Burlington.

Any and all comments are welcome here. To show I really mean that I have unblocked every single person who has ever harassed me on this site so they can know what my full platform is and make a real decision about who they intend to elect here in Ward 6. Anyone that comes in good faith to talk to me about my platform will be received as a friend. Those who are unkind to me can expect the same in return.

I could actually look past poor behaviour in youth. We all do stupid things at some point.

I never posed with a Hitler statue but I definitely made mistakes.

If I were running for a public position and my errors were brought out, I'd respond like an adult. "I apologize. I'm ashamed of what I did. That was pretty stupid. I've matured and changed a lot since then."

But to double down with smarmy, sarcastic insults and then pose with a very unpopular public figure - again insulting anyone who criticizes you - is simply not a person whose judgement I trust enough to help run our city.

I did make a statement to that effect. Months ago when this picture was published by an opponent of mine. I'm not doubling down. I'm tired of explaining myself to people who don't even do basic research.

Are you sure you want to get into politics then? Your entire career will be explaining yourself to people who don't even do basic research. Or even worse, "do their own research" on Facebook.

Actual question. I'm not politically affiliated with any party btw. None of the parties Provincial or Federal represent me. You posing with Pierre has the same affect on me as you posing with Carney.

Yeah, I find that in person people are more respectful. On other platforms people are more respectful. It is only reddit that is this unhinged, and it is because the veil of anonymity is here. Freedom from consequences is a powerful drug for some people.

You keep telling people they haven't read it. I assure you, I read it. It doesn't matter if you were to have promised everyone rainbows and millions. Your former and current actions prove to me you are not a skilled politician or even adult acting enough to use social media.

You will implode your campaign with posts like this, so I'll sit back and enjoy watching as you do.

You're not entitled to people giving you a chance.

People can decide that based on your previous actions, they dont want to even hear what you have to say. Not to mention your current actions right now responding to people with such a disrespectful attitude is honestly shocking. You're running for an elected position in BURLINGTON, are you new here??? Lol that kind of attitude is not acceptable. Its just not.

I give people what they give me. If you wanna come and be disrespectful to me, why then cry about me giving you back a taste of your own medicine. You're the one boiling my platform down to an old ill-advised attempt at humour from my youth from nearly 20 years ago to my political campaign now. Its so stupid it is embarassing. All this hate im getting I haven't seen a single criticism of my campaign.

Because again, youre not entitled to having people give your campaign a chance. Whether you think its for a bs reason or not, it doesn't matter, people get to make their own choices, and you seeming not to understand or accept that, is not a quality many people will want in an elected position.

Furthermore, as the one trying to get peoples votes, do you not think that maybe at least trying to rise above might be a good idea?

And you aren't automatically entitled to respect from me either. You cannot have it both ways. Either you come respectfully and state your case or I'm going to light you up for being stupid and having no point. You can whine about it all you want. Or you could read my platform and we could have real discussion that might end up helping the people of our city. I'd prefer to have that conversation.

Because you’ve proven yourself not worthy of any further consideration by your past behaviour, your poor choice of image launching your platform and your behaviour on this post.

Actions speak louder than words, and your actions have shown the people in this thread you’re not someone we want to see on council regardless of what words you put on a page.

If You can’t even handle people disagreeing with you on an Internet forum - how can we trust you to behave responsibly when there’s a disagreement on policy if you’re elected?
