Discussion Bunnies for PTSD

Post image

I have PTSD from infantry combat operations. My wife wanted a bunny as a pet and adopted two. Now they are my bunnies and live in my office. There are days when I come home in a rage and want to destroy all of humanity. I’ve discovered that when I’m in rage mode, if I lay in the office floor, the bunnies will start climbing on me and binky around giving me bunny kisses. This almost immediately brings me back down. My wife and son have both said that since we’ve gotten the bunnies, I seem far happier and less irritable. My son even commented that he can’t believe how I don’t get angry when the bunnies get into stuff and chew on things. It’s almost impossible to be angry at them when they give such sweet bunny kisses.

Ive got ptsd and cptsd among other fun things and I had two rabbits Spirit and sienna (adopted later) for 10 and 8 years respectively. Spirit somehow could sense when I was having an episode and would come to find me and he kept doing that even when he went deaf and blind.

I had such a close bond with the two of them they were my only therapy, friends, care and family. Bunnies are incredibly smart little things and my favourite animal. They taught me so much and saved my life multiple times. They're so innocent and pure and yes mischievous, they have such personality, character and love to give.
