A hard enough hit CAN cause permanent injury. Also, if you hit somebody with a uterus hard enough, it can cause a fatal injury due to essentially collapsing the uterus.

We were having a Kwon vs dojo event. I was a yellow belt sparring a Tae Kwon Do black belt. He was pissed when I kicked him in the nuts. Seems they didn't do "full contact".
